About Healthy Paws Forward Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Shelby Kimura graduated from the University of Calgary in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science, with a major in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology and minor in Psychology. After graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Melbourne in 2006, Dr. Shelby Kimura, a native Calgarian, returned to Calgary to practice as a veterinarian at a 24-hour small animal practice; she owned and worked at a busy 24-hour primary care and emergency practice until late 2018. Dr. Kimura co-founded, and was actively involved with ferret rescue for over 10 years and owned ferrets for 20 years. As a result, she has a strong interest in ferret medicine and surgery. Over the last several years, Dr. Kimura has taught ferret handling and medicine for the RVT program at Olds College and for vet students at the UCVM. She is currently the Vice President for the Calgary Academy of Veterinary Medicine and has been on the CAVM Board of Directors since 2008.
She is a loyal Calgary Flames fan, a Calgary Flames Ambassador and takes advantage of every opportunity to watch a live Flames game.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our nine week old puppy was sick and showed signs of a serious condition. Dr. Jan picked up on this right away and referred us to a specialist for further investigation. We are grateful for the care he received. The front desk staff was kind and very helpful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When i booked an appointment for my dog to get neuter and i was given a fixed price but then they gave me a phone call saying that i have to pay an extra 100. After that my total 420 and i was told 345 before the extra charge. I gave them a call and then said that we cant do anything. They made up some excuses on why they had to add an extra charge. I would not recommend going to their clinic for any reason unless you want to get ripped off.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Staff was super friendly and helpful! I adopted a kitten over the weekend that came from a farm and it seemed like the kitten had worms. I called around so many places and was told it wasn’t an urgent matter. When I called this vet they were able to get him in same day on a Sunday which is amazing. We got him in and the vet (we seen Dr.Luis) was so helpful with everything, he examined my cat, gave him his shots and deworming and answered all the questions my boyfriend and I had. I will definitely be returning and using this vet from now on! super reasonably priced to & everyone is super helpful. It was also super clean!

The entire team are absolutely wonderful. They care for their patients as though they were their own kids.
The knowledge and experience is outstanding. I'm so very very grateful for the love and care they've always shown to my animals. Thank you to such a wonderful bunch of humans that continously give their all.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a really good experience at Healthy Paws Forward when my puppy had a reaction to his first vaccines. The staff were extremely caring and Dr. Jan Hen-Boisen even took the time to call a few days later to follow up and ask how the puppy was doing.
I love how Healthy Paws Forward is open on the weekends too - it seems that many vet clinics/hospitals in the area are closed on the weekends.
Highly recommended.

They provided me with a plan of action with recommendations and estimated costs to address some issues for my dog. They made my dog and myself feel very comfortable and I will definitely be coming back for a few follow up appointments.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had to rush my pup over here suddenly and Ashley and Luis were so helpful and made sure my dog was taken care of very quickly and did such an amazing job at explaining every little thing to me and helping to calm me down. This was my first time coming to this clinic and I’m so happy with how it all went and they made sure to test whatever they could think of and asked a lot of questions while making sure the costs were not too much for me. Thank you so much for taking care of my girl and she felt a lot better the next day after the meds given.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Today was my second visit to this clinic and just like last time it was fantastic. Incredibly kind and friendly staff, you can tell they're excited about their work, happy to be there and happy to work with the animals! Exceptional service. The receptionist is especially wonderful.
I fully recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone looking for a great, kind, clean, and safe place to bring their pets. I'm very happy to have found this place to bring my little budgie Francis to. We all want the best for our pets and they sure are the best! Thank you!
