I do not have a problem with paying for eye and ear tests, especially when an organization does direct billing. However, this Sylvan company doesn’t even direct billing to most benefits agencies.
On the phone with a receptionist, I was informed that if I wanted to come in for an eye test it would be free... and that a hearing test would cost (I would need to submit an invoice to my benefits company myself)
I was a little hesitant, but said I would come in for the “free” eye test as my eyes are not bad at all, and I don’t have glasses. I informed her that I have tinnitus in my left ear and would be willing to bill the hearing test myself. We agreed to chat about the hearing test after the “free” eye test.
Needless to say, I did not even chat with them about coming in for a hearing test after I was charged $80. Apparently the eye test is free with purchase of glasses, which is fine, but it was not made clear... at all!
I suggest picking a place that does direct billing.
