I don't usually write reviews if my experience was bad, but I just have to for this store-- both this one and the Varsity Dr. branch. Tell me how a staff team in this day can act so disrespectfully towards their non-white customers? Plato's Closet is basically a thrift store, selling second hand clothing at a discounted price. They have to understand that many low-income families, including many immigrant families shop here. On many occasions of several visits, the staff have acted like me and my family, who are Asian, are wayyy below them. I didn't notice it at first, but I've seen them greet every white customer that enters the door, and not a single time have I or my family ever been greeted. Not even a simple hello. When we ask for change rooms, they roll their eyes. When we look around at the clothes, they stare so grudgingly at us with cold eyes. I have seen their behaviour toward their Black/Brown customers and other People of Colour in their store. WOW. It is so evident that if you're not white, you will not be treated with basic human decency. They do not greet other customers of colour, or even ask if they need help. And during check out, they are so extremely cold. It's so weird because their actions toward their white customers differ greatly. They are so friendly and kind with them, and once it's someone who isn't white, instant change. Plato's Closet: TEACH YOUR STAFF TO TREAT EVERYONE WITH THE SAME RESPECT THAT WE DESERVE. Stop hiring racist people. I can't believe this happens nowadays, such racist behaviour is intolerable. I've experienced racism my whole life, do not try to invalidate and gaslight these feelings of your customers of colour. We are not less than you.

Not worth the time. They took the most useless items. And I left with just as much clothing as when I came. If you want to try sell your clothing on Facebook marketplace or donate them.

I liked the options. However, I felt that the aisles could be more accessible. It was cramped, and I couldn't look at an item without constantly moving for other customers.

DO NOT SELL OR BUY HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. If I could give 0.00 stars I would. I have thrifted and consigned clothes for years in Calgary and have never had a worse experience. I recently tried out Platos Closet, the Elbow Dr location and could not have been more dissapointed. Firstly, the team at the front desk seemed actually annoyed that I had brought a box of my next-to-new brand-name items. I was asking how the process works and the one girl interrupted me to rudely explain that β€œthe system just does it automatically”. While I waiting for an offer on my clothes I took a browse through their racks. I lost count of the amount of items I saw that were stained, ripped or in poor shape. Some of the shoes still had mud on them!! I also thought the pieces were quite high for a consignment, but that lead me to believe maybe they would pay higher than other places for my items. When I was finally made an offer for my clothes, they offered me $15.00 for 3 items, all of which were brand new. Including a pair of Aritzia pants that retails for over $150.00. I saw the same pair of pants in their racks listed for $50.00. I told them I would not sell them a pair of pants for $5.00 that they have listed at $50.00 on the racks. They gave me the remaining $10.00 for a pair of brand new Nike shorts and brand new American Eagle shoes. The other stuff was passed on due to β€œmarks and stains” yet were cleaner than most of the clothes on the racks. Such a complete waste of time. Style Encore off of Banister Road is SO much better and pays quite fairly for good quality used clothes. Consider giving them your business before trying Plato’s Closet.

Everything in my bag was Zara and H&M, and when they called to tell me they only took a few things, I told them I would just take my bag and resell the items. They handed me the wrong bag, so I contacted and informed them that they had given me the wrong bag and that the girls were being quite disrespectful!! I went a step farther and emailed Plato's head, but they did nothing. I have yet to receive my bag, and I am really upset! They're a rip-off, and the women here are rude! I strongly advise against it.

Staff has been friendly and helpful the few times I have been in. Love the sales, being able to get second hand items at clear out prices is awesome! Wish they took more items when brought in, especially clean, good quality items. They don’t like anything more than a year or two old.

I feel so so SO ripped off. I went in with two shopping bags of items. All in good shape, relatively new and suited for reselling. I was anticipating not all of my items would be accepted, as is typical with consignment shops, however after looking around at the garbage they had on the racks (dirty shoes, sweaters with terrible pilling and wear, lower quality than you see at Value Village) I assumed they weren't picky. NOPE. It looks like they get so much in now due to COVID that they only chose two items of mine, that still had TAGS on. A Kenneth Kole iPad cover and Lulu shorts. Total payment? $18. And they made me feel so judged when they handed back my other items, then didn't even give me an opportunity to decline $18 for two items with tags still on never used!! I feel like this business stole from me honestly, I am so disgusted and beyond frustrated. If you're done with your clothes throw some good karma to the universe and just give your stuff to good will. I don't want anyone else to have the absolutely awful experience I did.

Unbelievably terrible service. While we were in there shopping, the store had 6 employees on staff. Of those 6 people, no one was running the fitting rooms. Kind of important when running a clothing store, people might want to try something on before purchasing. Incredibly rude personel while browsing and looking for clothing. No one greeting or offering help, ensuring customers actually get the service they're looking for. There were 10 people, seriously 10 people in line. One till open, 4 people behind the desk with 4 possible tills to be open. One ringing in the customers in line, one doing pricing, one doing go-backs and one hanging clothes. All of which is second to helping customer and making sales, literally the purpose of a business. When a customer asked if they could open another till to expedite the process, one of the 4 employees behind the counter used a sharp tongue to reply and said she couldn't because she was going to need it to price clothing. Meanwhile 2 other tills remained closed and unused. The whole experience was 40 minutes end to end when it should've been a 10 minute transaction. If this is an acceptable way to run a store and for employees to speak to customers, then this is a sad state and would seriously look at management and their ability to coach and lead an effective team.
