M	Mac S on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ignored by staff. I went in to buy some shoes for my self. While we were browsing my mom found a pair of boots she liked. As she was trying them on I went up to the counter to see if someone could help us find another size. The lady at the counter was intently packing a box and actively avoided eye contact with anyone waiting in line. Eventually we got frustrated and gave up. We wandered around the other side of the store for a couple minutes but the salesman also ignored us. Check Mate Shoes, I'm sure you have Great Shoes, but your sales staff need to engage with the customers. Because they didn't, your store lost two sales that day and two customers.
C	Craig Stange on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife has a difficult time finding shoes that fit. I thought hey checkmate advertised being able to fit “hard to fit” feet so we gave it a try. While in the store I was approached several times, however my wife who was browsing in a different part of the store was actively ignored. I even directed the sales staff towards her but they never went to her. I’m not sure if this played a factor but I am Caucasian and she is First Nations. Terrible service.

We were told by the salesperson we had 5 days to return if not worn outside and in the same condition. The shoes rubbed on my mom's foot when she wore them around her house and went to return them within the 5 days. She found out that they have changed their policy on Jan 1, 2019, and it is exchange or in-store credit only. This needs to be clear to customers at the time they are buying shoes. I was with my mom and they did not say it was exchange or in-store credit only. I will think twice before shopping here again since they carry expensive shoes that now cannot be returned for credit. I will not take mom here again. There are lots of other quality shoe stores.
R	Rachel Knight on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was just in store looking for winter boots. I was very rudely greeted with "put sanitizer on" and no hello whatsoever. I asked if they carried Dr. Martens and again wasn't even worth being spoken to. The sales associate only felt I was worth a head shake. Well thanks. I guess I will spend money elsewhere. There are many other high quality shoe stores so I would not recommend wasting time looking in this store unless you want to be treated poorly when spending $200 or more. Would rather just order online rather then dealing with brick and mortar stores, particularly this one!

J	Jacquie Bechtold on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely appalling service there!! I went int o the store at 4:52, according to my iPhone clock, the store hours on the door advertises open til 5:00pm. I was immediately accosted by the manager, with her hand up in my face saying I am sorry we are closed and then turned out the lights! I questioned the time and she said that her till said it was 5:00pm (she was across the room from the till). I then realized that there was another customer in the store who was trying on shoes, (now in the dark!) and I explained that I knew what shoes I wanted and that they were on the display table directly in front of me, and I just needed the correct size. She stomped off to the back, and the poor other customer looked at me embarrassed and upset as she had just entered the store right before me, and was obviously uncomfortable as well. The “manager” came out from the back room and rudely asked me what size I needed, and I decided there was no way I was going to spend ANY money in that store again!! I wanted to support a local store rather than order online, but I will not tolerate being treated like that!! Absolutely unprofessional and down right ignorant!!! You missed out on a $300 sale and any future sales from myself and any friends and family that I can warn about this woman and her store!
