Good experience once, followed by a remarkably poor one the second time. Needed a replacement part for my boot, and was charged $20 the first time. Three weeks later, I came back for the same part for my other boot and was told the price was $40. I objected, seeing as I had received the same part for $20 less than a month prior, and after some back-and-forth they agreed to sell the part for $30. I grudgingly accepted, but felt a bit like they had me by the balls. What got me was the attitude I received from the staff. They told me they were doing me a favour by only charging $30 for the product, which was still more than I'd payed prior. There was no level of apology, but a take-it-or-leave-it attitude that certainly discourages me to return. I recognize it's a small amount of money, but I also realize that if they're going to dicker over such small amounts of money, I don't think it's worth spending larger amounts in this store. I left and headed back up the mountain, but decided to check if all the pieces needed were in the bag. Found that it was missing a crucial pin and headed back down the mountain. I went back in, informed them of the missing part, and received a pin, but only after they told me they normally charge $3 for these pins but they'd do me a favour and not charge me this time. Pretty classless move after the above interaction. I purchased my original avi gear from this shop a couple years ago, but I certainly will think twice about spending any more here. Update (9/1/19): The pin I received when I went back was the wrong size. Luckily I was able to find one at another shop where they didn't even think to charge me for it.

Just wanted to thank the guys at Excess for their fantastic service. They got us kitted out efficiently for a day in the backcountry but on our way back to Vancouver I left my boots in the store in a rush. Excess looked after them for a whole two months before I could pick them up - top service, and thanks for saving me the pain of finding new boots!

Very knowledgeable, great boot fitting, and they stock great gear. And today I somehow broke the ski/walk mechanism on one of my SCARPA backcountry boots in the resort; brought it into Excess Backcountry where I bought the boots last year and walked out 5mins later with a fitted replacement level, no charge. I love this place!

I devastatingly broke my (recalled) bindings in the middle of a powder day. After being told I needed to provide an myriad of information to even be considered for a warranty at one shop, I walked into Excess Backcountry at noon with two busted bindings (thinking my day was over) and walked out 15 minutes later with two brand new, mounted toe pieces with no hassle at no cost. I was back on snow in no time. The level of customer service was exceptional, these guys knew their stuff and saved my day! I'd recommend Excess Backcountry to anyone looking for great service - thanks again!

Awesome service & friendly staff. Extremely knowledgeable about all backcountry apparel. I had been looking for my peculiar binding situation to be serviced throughout Van, Squamish & Whistler. Mac was able to help me out and get me back on the slopes within the same day. Thank you.

The place to go for backcountry stuff! Super nice staff that knows what they're talking about and they always have the best products. They provide touring ski rentals in the winter. Excess Backcountry also rents out avalanche safety equipment, such as transceivers, shovels, probes, backpacks and airbags. They also have great summer, spring and fall hiking gear!

This place Is absolutely awesome! Especially James – he was so helpful for answering my questions regarding an avy pack. He went above and beyond to be helpful. Whoever is the manager I would give this guy a raise
