★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I recommend Pacific West. The workers there are super sweet and make sure you are comfortable before they do anything with your teeth and I guarantee you will be satisfied when you walk out the door!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I came to BC Head Pain Institute for a severe TMJ problem. I had headcahes, neck pain and jaw pain daily and chronic for over 6 months. I was told they would be able to help me and seemed very confident about what the condition was and they had complete trust in their treatment plan. After charging $3,000 that I paid upfront (and was not covered by any insurance since it is considered an orthodontic treatment for which one must be under 19 years old), we started the treatment which included an orthotic piece, micro current, cold laser therapy, manual manipulation and ultrasound. I asked right from the beginning whether or not additional imaging would be necessary to be really sure the condition was what they thought it was. No additional testing like CT Scan or MRI was done besides the diagnosis session which only included very limited testing like photos of my face and jaw, some measurements and neck range of motion.
It was clear soon after I started the treatment that I was not responding successfully to it. In fact, after each session the pain seemed to increase. The moment dr Wang realized this, he stopped answering my emails and was almost never there when I went in for therapy. He did not check my orthotic piece at a weekly basis and weeks would pass before I could see him in person. I had to talk to the assistant most of the time who was actually a lot more comforting and reassuring than the doctor himself. The assistants tried really hard to help me out but the doctor did not refer me to a specialist nor did he help me get an order for an MRI or any other type of imaging examination.
After having finished the treatment it was safe to say it was not effective on me at all. If anything I felt a bit worse than when I started. I had to then, fly back to my home country to get a proper diagnosis. There I saw a Neurologist, a Maxilo Facial surgeon and an Occlusion Dentist. I got a jaw MRI done, Scans of brain and neck, Xrays and a thorough Sleep Study. All the specialists have reached the same conclusion for the diagnosis; a dislocation of the right jaw joint and severe bruxism. They gave me the right meds and got a personal appliance done to stabilize the bite. The Occlusion dentist, who is a professor at the most prestigious University of the country even told that the orthotic piece given to me by dr. Lun Wang was more damaging to my condition. After 1 week of treatment I feel incredibly better than months of therapy at the BC Head Pain Institute.
It seems that Dr Lun Wang has found a supposedly effective treatment for TMD and applies his method to all patients like a formula, and does not help patients who don't respond to his treatment. He admitted that getting imaging done in Canada is tricky, but did not at all strive to help me navigate the health care system. Instead he avoided me, he blamed my pain to "some other serious illness" and never took responsibilty to his mistakes.
I wore the orthotic piece made by dr Lun Wang night and day for many months and they were months full of tears, depression and desperation. I am not getting my 3K back, but at least this post will be helpful to someone considering the BC Head Pain Institute as one alternative to treat TMD. I am not saying they haven't helped other people, but if your case is chronic and more complex like mine, please be warned when chosing your doctor. His treatment actually made my luxated jaw worse.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They are scammers. They claim their procedures are covered by extended health and the customer has to pay up front, even demanding payment before your session. GreenShield did not cover it. Also after further consultation with my dentist and GP I was advised I did not need the $3000 orthotic they tried to sell me based on their "tests". See a neurologist for your headaches instead.
