Uptown Midwives & Family Wellness

First time mom here and I am so glad that I went with Uptown Midwives instead of an OB. The midwives took good care of me and the baby. Each midwife is knowledgeable and are there to answer all my concerns. Special thanks to Teresa who delivered my baby and Anne/Janaya for the wonderful experience.

So midwives basically just tell you nice things and act like your friends but I found them incredibly unhelpful with actual medical problems. I sustained a lot of injury from the birth and suffered weeks and weeks of pain before I asked to be referred to an ob. He, of course, immediately resolved my most urgent pain (which the midwives had called normal, and it was not). But the midwives just kept looking and saying everything is fine. It was not. My midwife was also unable to put in an IV for me. And she poorly bandaged my baby's foot after taking a blood sample so he ended up bleeding on his way home. Just a few examples of their incompetence. I also received a lot of attitude from one of my midwives for using their pager service for what I believed to be an urgent issue and the midwife disagreed with me. My experience in the end was very very poor. I would definitely not recommend Uptown midwives, but would also not recommend any midwifery practice altogether. Get an ob.

As a first time mom I constantly found myself worried about every little thing during my pregnancy & post partum. My baby had a tongue tie that created some feeding challenges, Monique & Ildiko provided me with the utmost nurturing, kind, and attentive care possible. They gave me the confidence to trust myself and my strengths. Thank you for being the most incredible source of support and encouragement for my pregnancy, birthing and post partum journey!

I have nothing but praises for the midwives here. My wife moved her care to this clinic in September 2021 when she was 6 months pregnant. It was the best decision and if we had a time wheel, we would have moved our care here from the onset. Monique and Ildiko were amazing, understanding, accommodating and warm. They gave us as much time as we needed in each visit and answered our long list of questions without any rush. They were always available for us no matter the type of question we had. This was starkly different from the care that we received from an OB during our first pregnancy. We always felt rushed through and like a sheep in a farm at OB's office. We were so disappointed by the experience there but felt that pregnancies needed to be handled by them and midwife care might not be best. OH WE WERE SO WRONG!! MIDWIFE CARE IS THE BEST. Not only are they caring and focused during the pregnancy, but the AFTER CARE, which is soo soo crucial, is also impeccible at Uptown Midwives. Monique and Ildiko supported us so well during the first 6 weeks of our son's birth. At every step, they listened to our concerns (no matter how trivial or repeated they were) and helped us through them. It is due to them that my wife was saved from Post Partum Depression. They are amazing and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is pregnant.

I was lucky enough to be a patient/client of Uptown Midwives. From the first meeting with the team i felt so comfortable, cared for and informed. My immediate team of Teresa, Anne and Janaya were INCREDIBLE, but everyone i interacted with from people in the hall to the front office team, were amazing. Teresa, Anne and Janaya listened to questions I had and provided informed answers which helped me feel confident as my pregnancy progressed, and through labour. Teresa was attentive and accessible once labour had started and helped me labour for as long as possible, in the comfort of my own home. At the hospital Teresa advocated for me and explained everything that she was doing to prepare for 'pushing'. Gemma joined us in the room just before i started pushing and added so much wonderful energy and support. I feel comfortable, confident and strong to deliver my baby boy. The aftercare provided was great. They cared for mom as much as they did baby. They provided me with advice and tips for breastfeeding, postpartum care, swaddling, pain management and mental health. I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about this clinic and the Midwifery team. I would recommend them to anyone and only have absolutely glowing things to say about this team. I actually cried when we reached our 6 week discharge date. I wanted them to care for both my son and me on an ongoing basis! alas, thats not possible if they want to provide amazing care to more pregnant women and their baby/babies! You will not be disappointed if you choose Uptown Midwives! To the team at Uptown, can't wait to see you again for baby #2 (whenever that may be!) Stephanie

For my third birth experience I was able to have midwives. Janaya was the midwife that attended my birth with Idilko assisting her. My home birth was literally the experience I hoped and dream of. Janaya was so respectful of what my choices were for my birth experience and never made me feel uncomfortable. I appreciate it more than words can say! Thank you Janaya, you are an incredible midwife.

My husband and I really enjoyed our experience at Uptown Midwives! From the start I had such a positive experience! I loved my team: Janaya, Teresa and Anne - you ladies are amazing ! I felt they really wanted me to be informed, they were professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. They took the time to answer all my questions thoroughly and I always felt supported and empowered in what I wanted for my pregnancy and labour. Janaya delivered my baby and made me feel confident in my choices as my labour progressed. She coached me and encouraged me as I started pushing and I couldn’t have asked for a kinder, compassionate and expert individual to support me along the way. I took some classes at the clinic and I loved them, they were very informative. I also think the clinic itself is well designed and has a nice ambiance. Janaya and Teresa provided my aftercare and again, I was so appreciative of how they took care of me and baby Ella. I highly recommend these ladies and Uptown Midwives! I joke that I miss them and our regular check ins that I need to have another baby soon. Thank you!!

Wow! There are no words to describe how grateful I am to uptown midwives for my amazing experiences with them. The office is beautiful, clean and run so professionally. The midwives are warm, knowledgeable and so incredibly competent. I especially enjoyed using their own clinic birthing room after 4 hospital births. It was so comfortable, convenient and clean. Special shout-out to Aynsley who delivered 3 of my children and whose knowledge, patience and gentleness never ceases to amaze me. Uptown midwives will always have a special place in my heart.
