The Arbutus Club

The CEO Brent Elkington & President Alan Bailey of the Arbutus Club are paranoid, unreasonable tyrants who flagrantly disregard rules. Although B.C.'s public health order expressly exempts swimming pools, outdoor tennis courts, skating rinks, childminding/physio/spa services from proof of vaccination requirements, the CEO & President of the Arbutus Club have outright banned unvaccinated members from accessing these facilities. To add insult to injury, they both continue to demand that unvaccinated members MUST continue to pay regular membership dues indefinitely even though the club is NOT allowing these members to use any of the Arbutus Club facilities even though the public health order allows use of pools, rinks, outdoor tennis courts, childminding/physio/spa services at the club regardless of vaccination status. They expect members to pay for these facilities even though they won't allow these same members to use these facilities. There is a huge lawsuit coming their way.

I played in the squash tournament and it was really fun. Thanks all to organize it.

Did a company event there. The staff there is amazing and very supportive of everything we do. The food was also amazing! The atmosphere and facility are both top notch and we had a great time.

Private club however at an event I attended in December was impressed with the lunch buffet and the staff. Found out some of the staff had been working there for over 20 years....they must be doing something right!!!

I went there a couple days ago for a Christmas party and wasn't impressed at all. First off, there's no name tags on the buffet place, so we don't really know what they were. Sure, we could tell it's turkey, shrimp, salad however few of us had dietary restrictions. A couple of my coworkers are vegetarian and I asked two servers if they know which sushi the vegetarian. Both of them have no clue, one of them said it's the kitchen who made and I thought ok that's fine if they don't know but they could ask the kitchen. We waited and they never told us back. Second, I understand we're both fully vaccinated but we're still in covid time. No gloves were provided on the buffet. Third, the service was bad! Most of the time servers were nowhere to be found, my coworkers had to go to the bar and grab/served the wine themselves. The bartender were gone. Also, I accidentally dropped a fork with few pieces of lettuce on the floor. I asked the server for a new fork which she brought right away but she did not pick up the lettuce on the floor. Again, after some time my coworker had to ask the server to clean up and picked up the lettuce on the floor. I also noticed, there were shrimp tail on the floor and while the server picked up the lettuce mess, she didn't pick up the shrimp tail on the floor. Fourth, I don't think they make the dessert in house. It looked like they bought from supplier. I might have a high expectations because I'm comparing them to Terminal City Club which is also a private club and in my opinion, Terminal City Club is way much more better and really nothing compared to the Arbutus Club in terms of the food and service.

The Arbutus club is a wonderful club with SO many activities happening! It’s all around fun for the whole family. I highly recommend this establishment as a private club to join. The whole staff are wonderful as well!

Good food at the two restaurants upstairs. I don’t love the bistro menu that much. Clean pool, sauna and steam room. Great Pilates classes and physio. Friendly service. No complaints.
