Dr. Michelle didn't grow up going to a pediatric dentist, nor did she know she wanted to be one, but she knew she loved working with kids. So when she decided to pursue a career in dentistry and then specialize in pediatrics, it came as no surprise.
She completed her Honors Bachelor of Science in Physiology at the University of Western Ontario (2003) where she met her soon-to-be husband from Calgary. She then returned home to Toronto where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto (2007). From there, she moved to Boston to complete her pediatric dental residency at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine/Boston Children's Hospital (2009). Although tired of moving, her husband Jeremy convinced her to make Calgary her new home.
In addition to working in private practice, Dr. Michelle also works at the Alberta Children's Hospital dental clinic as casual staff. She is a busy mother of three (including twins), an ex-waterski instructor and loves to visit family and friends in the summer in Muskoka.
For Dr. Michelle, being a dentist is as much about teeth as it is about the relationship she creates with each child. Watching her patients get bigger is the most rewarding part of her career and if she can keep them cavity-free, that's even better.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After Dr Thal left her previous practice, I Googled about once a month trying to hunt her down. I was THRILLED to find she had opened Small to Tall. We have seen her since day one with our now 3.5 year old, and every experience has been gentle, kind, and SO respectful. I love that the team speaks directly to my child and tell her what they’re doing, making it fun and relaxed. In addition to her incredible bedside manner with children, Dr Thal is a brilliant dentist (she attended Harvard) and her ability to assess situations quickly and accurately is unparalleled. We have recommended her to at least a dozen friends and everyone who has gone has also been thrilled with the respectful, honest, and kind care, from the front office experience through the exam and beyond. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I recently changed dentists to Small to Tall because of the convenient location close to my home. My boys (ages 6 and 9) each had cleaning and check up appointments over the last 2 days. I can not say enough good stuff about this business! The decor is lovely with a very warm and calming colour palette. The front-line staff are super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Rachel was the hygienist who cleaned both boys teeth and she was patient, kind and explained everything she was doing before she did it. She told the boys how great they were doing the whole time and used positive reinforcement from beginning to end. Dr. Michelle was also very gentle and kind and explained everything to me that she recommended for treatment. There was no pressure to do preventative work, but the options were explained thoroughly. One of my boys will need 2 fillings and Dr. Michelle explained the process to me and what options were available to make his first filling experience the best it can be. She truly understood the importance of these first dental experiences being positive. I only wish Small to Tall was around when I was a kid! Try them out, you won't be disappointed!

I felt at ease and taken care of from the moment we walked in for our appointment, Dr Michelle has such a calming presence on the kids for what would typically otherwise be a very anxious experience, and they actually look forward to their appointments which I would have never expected. Of course it doesn’t hurt that the play area at reception is amazing :). My kids’ teeth are as healthy as can be and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Michelle to anyone looking for a great pediatric dentist!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dr. Michelle and her whole team make going to the dentist an absolute joy! We love the unique way she Calms and distracts our daughter to get the work done. Our daughter always leaves with a smile and she especially loves the play structure and other kid friendly details that make the dentist the best place to visit.
We noticed Dr. Michelle when she was working on call at the Children’s Hospital, we weren’t her patient but she came over and put our fears at ease in an uncomfortable situation. It really made the whole experience better. Thank you!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had quite a bad experience with this dental office. Allow me to explain. We were out of town for the long weekend, however the dental office tried calling us and since we did not respond "on time", they cancelled my daughter's appointment. Later on, we also realize that they were booked until Dec 2022. Just adding one and two together... this is a very business oriented dental office, and there is no human factor added to the business mantra. Keep in mind that we have never missed or was late for our appointment for many years, and both my kids dental works are being done in this office for many years as well.
We are definitely not going back again and would not recommend this dental office to any potential clients who might in future be looking for some forgiveness in a slight and short delay in responding to confirm the dental appointment.
