A hospital that keeps their policy & procedures above the patients. Providing patient care, treatment etc comes last in their line. Is it just NYGH or the entire system...???

Couldn’t be happier with Dr Mamalias and nurse Candice who were absolutely amazing. Thank you for your generous care and for taking the time to listen and advise.

People in emergency situation have to wait more than two hours. Their behaviour is absolutely unacceptable with patients and elderly people. One of the staff, Jennifer was impatient and speak in disrespectful manner I am sure no one really care This hospital.

Friendly doctors and nurses. Went in for a specific pain, they checked and confirmed. The next thing I know, surgery was being schedule. The best and fastest service I could have ever asked for. Thank you to the amazing team.

I’m writing this review because I had read others before going here myself, and felt somewhat disheartened due to the negative feedback. It’s a simple fact of life that folks are more likely to voice their opinion when something goes wrong, rather than praise when something goes right. I just want to point out this discrepancy as my primary motivation for composing this review. I went to the NYGH ER for shortness of breath, a sharp whistling cough, and one-sided (left) chest pain radiating thought my shoulder and back. I suspected to be suffering from a ruptured lung, having had a pre-existing chest and lung condition, as well as three previous surgeries. Overall, the staff was kind but firm in their questioning and direction. The nursing team made quick work out of a large I flux of patients, despite it being 1AM, directing them to the appropriate areas. After about 30 mins of waiting, registering, and being assessed, I was seen by Dr. Jin, whose communication was direct and clear, albeit somewhat rushed initially due to other patients. I was then sent to the X-Ray wing, where I spent a total of 5 minutes to complete the necessary imaging. A pulmonary function test, as well as an ECG were performed. The nurse tending to me (I didn’t get her name) was very friendly and witty, which certainly helped the overall mood. Despite perfectly normal results across all measurements and tests, I was still worried and skeptical. Dr. Jin took notice and was very receptive to my fears, not only by taking the time to listen, but also giving me the necessary referral to acquire a second opinion from a pulmonologist (the hard way of saying β€˜lung doc’). With my nerves and anxieties at ease, I returned home with a total door-to-door turnaround time of exactly 2 hours. This is undeniably the fastest ER experience I’ve ever had, and the team really seemed to have the whole process streamlined and optimized to a T. Should I ever find myself in a medical emergency (though I hope to God I don’t), you’ll find me here.

Emergency department needs a redo. Triage and registration has reasonable wait times, but after that organization is lacking. Waiting 2 hours for the doctor to review X-Rays is third world country performance. It looks like administration can speed up times of waiting by simply having a doctor check patience just past triage and send to further department as needed, since a fair amount of patience have conditions that do not require a complicated treatment regime. As example a swollen knee can be send directly to X-Ray instead of waiting for Doctor, then X-ray and then back to Doctor. Lets be fair it is public medicine, free is not always the best. I was always against private health but now I believe a hybrid system might be better.
