About Mud Sweat and Gears

Back in ’85 I entered my first Triathlon and after a good swim was first out on my K-Mart Targa road bike. Needless to say I got my doors blown off cranking that tank into the transition. The next day I was in my Local Bike Shop and walked away the proud owner of a Bianchi 12 speed. Three months and several Triathlons later the LBS ordered me a Vitus Carbon Road bike (the first in the city with index shifting). To pay for the bike the owner of the shop hired me and I worked the rest of the summer on the tools supporting my addiction. A few years, dozens of Triathlons and a handful of Mountain Bike races later I moved to Sherwood Park and decided to start my own business fixing bikes out of the laundry room. After a couple of years the basement was over run with bikes and I decided I had better build a shop. Up went a garage and in the blink of an eye it was full and by year 16 the property was pushed to the limit. So here we are, my wife and I took the plunge opening Mud, Sweat and Gears in December of 2006 at 133 Main Blvd.

Picked up a great bike at a fair price. Sales team was very knowledgeable. I'll be back for all my cycling needs.

I love this new location! The staff is quick to greet you, but don't hover. Very helpful and knowledgeable, will definitely be back to buy many more big boy toys!

Went in to discuss rebuilding my old BMX cruiser and then discussed an upgrade to a cruiser. Things were going well and I was offered to take one of the bikes for a spin. As I was signing the forms the girl hands me a nasty helmet to wear, I laughed and said no thank you and she replied it’s the law. No problem, I left without test driving anything. I understand there are policies in place but I’m a grown man and I’ll decide if I wear a helmet while I drive a bike around the block. I was looking for bikes for myself, my gf and my youngest as well as doing a complete rebuild on my BMX but over a β€œhelmet law” they were happy to watch me walk away. Perhaps the last couple years have made companies confused about law’s vs policies etc. I also asked for a discount based on multiple bikes and services and was told no. I prefer to support local but I will be finding another place to spend my money.

The entire shop was great! Karl took care of us explaining the differences between all the various e-bikes! He ensured we understood everything, offering his experience and made the purchase of a new bike pleasurable and fun! Thanks Karl!

Got a great deal on a Rocky Mountain Element doing Covid lockdown when nothing was available. Drove up to red deer and everything was perfect for my height and weight. It’s an amazing back by the way, perfect weight and balance for most of West Bragg Creek trails. 2 1/2 hours on disconnect did not feel like a breeze, but certainly was made much more comfortable with this amazing bike.

Got a new bike for all types of ridding. Unfortunately my pedal mount kept just randomly falling off… but with the free mata nice for a year it helps insure it stays in good condition and they offered to take a look at it and even replace it!!! Awesome place, great service, prices are high but you get what you pay for. Defiantly worth it!

My 73 year old husband and I went into the Red Deer store and met Mackenzie. A very helpful patient young man who answered all our questions about e bikes. He advised us which bike would work best for us, sold them to us and proceeded to fit them to us, after which he loaded them into our vehicle and told us to phone him or come in whenever we have questions. Thank you so much for all the help. Susan
