Macdonald Estates-Residential - Edmonton

I have lived here for 15 years and that was definitely not the original plan. I only planned to stay here for a few years to finish up school and move on. However, MacDonald Estates was such a great place to live that it ended up being 15 years until today when I finally moved out (bought a place). The location is perfect. Central downtown with easy access to LRT and all the downtown amenities close by. Building itself was great, suite had no problems and management are friendly and top notch. If you drive, there is heated secure parking (extra) attached to the building as well, which is a great perk especially during the winter. Rent is affordable and power is included which makes a huge difference. I highly recommend MacDonald Estates if you are looking for a nice place to rent downtown.

As a resident in the building for five years, I would say this is a very decent place to live in given the location and the facility they offer for the price point. However, the reason why I gave it only two stars is because of the new management team. The new building manager, Shawna treats the tenants with an absolutely horrible attitude. Her behaviour Is extremely unprofessional, constantly makes careless mistakes and she shows no effort to be friendly to her tenants whatsoever. The move out process with her was miserable and she tried to rush the paperwork without providing proper details and explanations.

This was probably one of the worst places I've lived. When we moved in the place was very dirty, like they didn't bother to clean it before we moved in, there's CONSTANT construction outside of this place (no fault of theirs), but it doesn't make for a very peaceful place to live. Especially if you work nights. The windows are paper thin so you can hear pretty much everything happening outside. And they're NOT air tight. When it's windy the wind blows through cracks in the window seams. And despite what they tell you, you absolutely cannot control the temperature in your apartment. The thermostats that are in the apartments are strictly for show the only way you can control the heat in that place is by a knob in the furnace room that lets you turn it on high low and medium but you cannot control the temperature. The suites are very outdated, and not very well kept at all. The place is currently under new management and the only person who was actually kind was Shawna. Our move out was a nightmare. The loading Bay is blocked off due to construction so we had to go through the main entrance which is two heavy doors with a million people going in and out of them and they didn't book us in for a move time so we had to move really fast in order to get our stuff out of there because they also booked someone around the same time that we were supposed to be moving out even though they knew and we told them that we were supposed to be moving out that day parking ISN'T free. It's about $150 a month. For unsecured parking. It's not worth the price for a dirty unmonitored parking lot. Diamond parking over charges for the dump they run here. It's shameful how much they charge. Everywhere else charges $50-$80 a month for nicer parking lots than this dump.

Easily the best place I have ever lived at! Wonderful spacious suites, and the management is absolutely amazing, very personable, and always on top of maintenance. Shauna is outstanding, and is always on point! 10/10 would recommend living here

Very good experience since 2019 fall. Great management who respond to maintenance request timely. The environment is good, close to the valley, and the view is good. Close to LRT (kind of like subway) so convenient transportation. The building is old, not very fashion. Sometimes there is an air conditioning issue. But except for this, everything is wonderful.

I had a viewing with Taylor and she was so amazing showed me the place thoroughly including gym and pool she didn’t rush the viewing like usually places which I liked a lot! Shawna the manager was so kind and a understanding person to deal with! The place is clean,looks nice exactly like photos! Can’t wait to move in seems like a very friendly environment for me and my baby. Also they have discounted damage deposit for government works ETC. And other great offers!
