I really tried to like this Island based credit union but the strikes against it kept stacking up. For one, it cost more, it's less convenient then the big banks, and the customer service (which you'd think they'd excel at) is terrible, with absolutely no sense of urgency. I waited over a month to get my mortgage sorted and its never busy when I'm there, so what's the big delay for?
I've tried twice to get a competitive insurance quote, the first time never getting back to me in time, and the second off by $800.
This was the last straw. I recently had a problem sending and receiving Interac e-transfers, and the block originated from my CCCU account. I talked to 3 staff/management on 3 separate occasions, each one blowing me off as if its not their problem. Not being able to receive funds is a BIG problem for me. I phoned my old bank, BMO, and they solved my interac block right away as if it was their duty. I guess theirs a reason big banks make money.
I'd stay away from this little Credit Union, it's just not worth your efforts.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Horrible experience! Finally got a pre approval on a new mortgage after 6 to 8 weeks of them trying to give us stuff we didn’t want. We already had mortgage with them and figured we would stay with them, really bad idea. They took there sweet time and left everything to the last minute on our new house had us pay for appraisal and then denied the deal the day before subject removals. We had to scramble at the last minute for another lender. They didn’t seem to care the entire time and looking back on it they didn’t actually know what they were doing. Thanks for all the stress! We called Scotiabank and had approval and deal was done in 48 hours, they even paid for appraisal. Absolutely no stress and treated us like gold ! I have asked cccu to contact me regarding our experience with them and have not heard back, was expecting that as they don’t really care. Would never deal with cccu again! I still need to go get my 5 dollar membership fee back ! Or maybe not. Too bad there is a no star option on this review. ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ here's my personal experience today. Use for your own reference with caution.
I called the branch of Coastal Community CU, asking if they offer credit card to new comers. The lady answering the phone asked "What do you mean?". Then I spent half a minute explaining that new immigrants find it hard to get credit card approval from banks and asked if they offer that service. The answer was a stoney and simple "NO" then she hang up. Leaving around the world and having dealt with financial service providers of all kinds and levels, this experience with CCCU ranks among the bottom 5%.
