★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My family have been buying eyeglasses from this place for over 9 years. Even though their collection is not as big as the other fancy retailers, we always find good frames for reasonable price. We never had any issues with their glasses. The staffs are very helpful as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I been going there for many years and I never had issues up until today.. when they made me wait for 4 to 5 months to get an appointment when I finally got one and had my daughter miss school they fully wouldn't let me get my exam for my eyes without a o.w receipt and I even asked can I go and get it and come back they said no and the eye doctor was very rude and disrespectful.. I will not be going back there anymore even if its cheap its not worth the disrespect.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I saw all the 1 star reviews and really should’ve known better, but I thought the prices were reasonable. Just find somewhere else to go, it wasn’t a headache in the beginning, but it became one. Cheaper in this case is definitely not better.

I have seen people "purchase" outright good eyewear or be with TTC or similar City work sites be treated like the Queen of the UK BUT...BUT if you are a new immigrant or on Ontario Works with a voucher - then all negative statements are true on how you are treated. I have witnessed and have experienced first hand the bad treatment. The worse part is when your own caseworker knows nothing about what you are entitled to or anyone else at this level and you find out at the location you have travelled to the far located Scarborough location to be treated badly and that special coatings for medical issues are going to be charged for unless you fork over more money or travel back to your Dr. To get revised prescription with reason for everything you need to see. First of all most on Ontario Works do not have extra money or the ability to afford running back and forth with details from Dr's whom also ask extra money if they have to explain themselves. I feel this place is really a TOXIC environment for those on Ontario Works with special eyesight requirements and it is humanly a disgrace that one must feel sub-human for a basic need of perfect eyesight. This Vendor should have their standing contract revoked or bi monthly investigated anonymously !!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ontario Works provides discount vouchers only to this seller. But here they have a set of out-fashioned frames with a green sticker only for this offer. All other good looking frames are being charged minimum extra $70. When it comes to lenses also seller told the voucher covers only for standard lens, or basic varifocal lenses which was way low than my existing medium standard lenses. Therefore I'm unable to use the provided pair because, they said it will cost another $400 to upgrade. Later I have changed it to a single far vision pair only. It was disappointed and wasted time. It would have been better if they informed me the coverage before making the glasses rather making a useless pair. And some staffs are not helping at all. I'm giving additional star for the staff who tried to help in my second visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the WORST place I have every dealt with. If you are on O.W. they will give you nothing but grief. They assign cheap, outdated frames to choose from and try to make you pay extra to get better quality frames. Since the frames are so cheap, they break easily and fit horribly. If they should break, even if it has only been weeks of wear, they will tell you to go and get a new voucher and order a new pair. The government should not be funding a company that rips them off the way this place does. They are rude and dismissive. I have spoken to my worker many times and explained how they are unappreciative of the business they get from O.W. and that they should review their contract. There are so many other optical stores in this city that I am sure would at least try to treat us with dignity and respect. They behave as if they are not being paid for their services and that we have no right to complain. SHAME ON THESE PEOPLE. Only gave a star because I had to in order to post this message.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ *Just A Heads Up to Make Your Visit Smoother*
The optometrist (Eye Doctor) is independent from City Optical. If you receive your paper prescription from him, bring it in with you when you go to pick out your glasses. City Optical will not be able to give you a copy if the optometrist is not there. I doubt he would even give you a copy to be completely honest.
They do not keep it in a file.
If you are on OW, you will need your eye glasses voucher at the time of picking out your glasses. They will not let you pick it out without your prescription and voucher.
The front desk is very unprofessional, like to rush customers out and overall very rude. If you need a proper explanation, good luck! To save yourself a headache, make sure you know exactly what you need to get done and what you need for it.
One last tip to save your time, money, and energy. I recommend checking out "Clearly Contacts" ; they have both glasses and contacts. They have very affordable options and a wide price range, but typically anywhere from $50-100. It is very easy to navigate the website, and they offer buy 1 get one free. The shipping can be free depending on your order. My glasses last the full year and sometimes longer. You do get what you pay for but definitely a lot better then City Optical in my opinion.
