About Avis Car Rental

All additional drivers must be at least 25 years of age. The following are exempt from the additional driver fee but must meet all other driver requirements: the renter's employer or fellow employee when on company business and renting under a corporate account; the renter's spouse or domestic partner; the companion driver of a renter with a disability who has completed the non-licensed renter form; for insurance replacement rentals, company employees or family members who are designated on the insurance policy. All other additional drivers must complete and sign an additional driver form and present valid credit identification. A maximum of two additional drivers may complete a form.

For all US states other than NV and NY, the additional driver fee is $13 per day per driver with a maximum charge of $65 per driver. The fee in New York is $3 per day per driver. The fee in Nevada is $11 per day per driver with a maximum of $55 per driver.

We booked an Avis car for pick up from Thunder Bay Int'l Airport (YQT) Aug 20, 2017 01:00 AM arriving on Air Canada #8547. The flight was delayed and did not arrive until 02:30 AM. An Avis representative was not at the desk nor was any information provided as to whom to contact when we arrived. Both Enterprise and Hertz had reps wait for the delayed flight. We spoke with the Avis manager, Meghan Maenpaa, and were quite abruptly told that "customers do not come first at Avis". Ms. Maenpaa did not entertain any thought of reimbursing our taxi fare nor providing any sort of apology or compensation. In our case, we where staying in Thunder Bay and had accommodation with family. However, many people arrive in Thunder Bay and must carry on to outlaying areas. The Avis counter does not open until 08:30 AM, the airport shuts down and everyone must leave; hmm....what to do? Book through Enterprise or Hertz!!

Worst experience at Avis. I was forgotten and waited longer than needed. The Toyota had a big chip in the windshield so I got a Kia Forte which I wouldn't consider a full size. They also left an elderly woman waiting 2 hours like me because she had issues with her car.

If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible. Charged my credit card and refuse to provide a receipt detailing charges, so I cannot claim the expense for reimbursement. Enterprise are way easier to deal with. Run around when I repeatedly call the Avis 1-800 number. Terrible.

Worst Avis Experience That I've Had I've been a loyal Avis customer for years and had a terrible experience this weekend that was not only disgusting but jeopardized the safety of my 18 month old. After leaving the airport, I found food remnants on my steering wheel and eaten pistachio nuts in my drivers door. Only being in town for 38 hours for a wedding I did not have time to go back to swap cars. I also rented a car seat from Avis for my daughter and upon removing the seat I saw in big letters "Do Not Use as Child Restraint After Dec 2015"!!!! Not only did AVIS put my daughters life at potential risk, but in Ontario it is also Illegal and I could have been fined $1,000 and 2 demerit points if I was inspected, pulled over, or in an accident. While I know it does lie on me to double-check these things I arrived late after hours of delays, picked up the car in the rain and as most customers would have I TRUSTED Avis to provide me with a clean and safe car for my family. I hope this is not only a PSA for Parents to not trust Car Seat rentals, but also for Avis to drastically improve this locations service to meet the companies typical standards.

Do not deal with these people. They charged my credit card twice for the same car rental and now after three months they are still investigating my claim. I was told it would take a maximum of fifteen business days to see resolution. Poor customer service that is completely contradictory to the Avis/Budget mission statement.

Worst AVIS rental experience ever. I travel and use rental cars quite a bit. Preferred Express member status with Avis. I booked thru my travel agent with corporate code discount. When I arrived they gave me some car that i didn't like, I booked a full size car. I politely asked the lady any options today under my category. She offered a Jetta, she said it has Winter tires. I accepted it thinking its under my category. She didn't say anything about upcharge and nothing... Upon my return, I never got a email receipt very unusual. so I called and they email me a receipt with optional products as $20/day. $20/day more for having winter tires apart airport fees & $55/day rental. When I inquired they accuse that i agreed to $20/day winter tires and they have my initials. I thought they were getting signatures for damage waiver and non-smoking just like other AVIS centers. Even though my business is picking up the tab! This is completely unacceptable business practice. I phoned my corporate travel manager and reported about this incident and advised not to book any AVIS at Thunder Bay... If they can do this to Business personal imagine poor individual personal rental. PLEASE DON'T BOOK AVIS AT THUNDER BAY, ON airport.

No one at counter service , can’t find key drop off and no one answers the phone tues sept 7 @14:50 Car was dirty and still had paper work from last renter. I was on time constraint and had to leave. Counter personnel when I picked up was not wearing her mask / snacking through entire process of pick up. Have always had good Avis experiences at other locations . Don’t rent from this location.

If i could given 0 i would. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! They absolutely never answer their phones. I had to prepay for the reservation and it took me nearly a week to get ahold of anyone. sent them my credit card info via email which i wasnt comfortable to do in the first place only for the manager to tell me he essentially forgot about this and itll have to be dealt with on the day. Then my return flight was delayed 3 hours, once again couldnt get a hold of anyone and when i eventually did i was told i would be charged a full extra day. when asked why would i be charged for a full extra day the girl sniggered and said "well why wouldnt you be" this is the level of rudeness and professionalism youre dealing with. ANY other place you can rent a car from in Thunder Bay i would recommend over these guys. if nothing else... try taking the bus!
