About Windy Point Soap Making Supplies

Who are we?

Windy Point Soap Making Supplies is a Calgary, Alberta supplier of quality ingredients for creators of soaps, lotions, creams, balms and other toiletries. With more new items arriving every week, we're excited to share with you all the ingredients you need to make your projects a huge success.

Windy Point Soap Making Supplies is owned and operated by Michele and Keith Johanson of Calgary, Alberta.

Our Namesake:

Windy Point is the name of the 40ft fiberglass cabin cruiser that Michele's dad built in the family's driveway in the early 1980's.  Michele spent her summers on this boat with her brother and parents, cruising up and down the BC coast.  The first picture was taken in the Gulf Islands, and the second picture is on the Fraser River with the city of New Westminster in the background.  If you look closely, you can see Michele's parents at the back of Windy Point.

So how did we get here?

After being impressed by a gift of a Bath Bomb from Lush more thant 20 years ago, Michele set out on a mission to make her own Bath Bombs.  After the excitement of being able to create such a fun product in her own kitchen, she stumbled across a recipe for handmade natural soap.  One thing led to another and soon the kitchen became a place for experimenting with new soap recipes, lotions, balms etc.  If you're here reading this, you know exactly how that feels!  After years of sourcing the finest ingredients from all corners of the world, we felt the time was right to offer these same fine ingredients at a fair price to everyone else who loves to create their own natural products, whether that be for their own use, to give as gifts, or to sell to others.

Where are we?

We are located at Unit 14, 6125-12th Street SE in Calgary.

I've shopped here a few times for my soap making supplies, and each time is a great experience! The owners and staff are so kind and helpful. The store offers a huge variety of items, and they are all great quality. Being a beginner hobbyist at soap making, it's nice to know that I can get quality ingredients for affordable prices right in Calgary. I'll be coming back to shop from them in the future!

This place is like my second home. Knowledgeable staff, great prices on candle making supplies, and awesome selection of vessels. Everyone here goes above and beyond.

I absolutely LOVE Windy Point, although I haven't had the pleasure to try their products just yet. Here is the backstory: ---- I was previously advised by both Canada Post, and Purolator to put a message in the second address line indicating where to leave my parcels, as they were being left in an unsafe place - outside of my porch, near a busy bus stop. I have used this indication for a couple of years, with no issue. With this particular order, and my first order with Windy Point EVER, the parcel was deemed too heavy by CP to deliver and they passed it off to Purolator, however, they did not forward the signature request along, due to my indication to "Leave In Front Porch". ---- I ended up calling to speak with Michele, after a few weeks of emailing back and forth between myself, the postal carriers and Windy Point. The conversation went extremely well and I am so happy I took the time to call, rather than email. Tone and intention is so often misconstrued in text, and it really can make a huge difference to have an audible conversation. I understood that a lot of things were out of both of our control and she was also very understanding in regards to the situation and my previous frustration. Windy Point ended up refunding the order to a gift card (minus shipping which is totally acceptable), so I can re-order with them. In the waiting period, I had ended up ordering quite a few of the items that I had ordered from them in bulk, from a couple of local companies that had sales, so a gift card was much more beneficial to me than to resend the order, at this point. I cannot wait to place my new order as soon as I get a free moment to re-explore their website and products. They have earned my respect and loyalty, in so many ways and I cannot wait to develop a life-long business relationship with them. --- Thank you so much Windy Point, I am beyond thrilled and cannot express my gratitude enough. Truly the best customer service, even with my overtly strong personality. --- Lessons Learned from this experience: Don't indicate any delivery location in your address line, as the shipping companies will use this to their advantage. I ended up printing and laminating a sign for my front door, and mailbox indicating my desired delivery location and how to get a hold of me for signature requests. ALWAYS be kind, courteous and respectful. This will get you much further and generally people will do their best to accommodate you or your concerns, but no one wants to deal with rudeness, disrespect or anger. We all have stressful situations that take place and sometimes it is out of our hands but always navigate these issues with grace. --- Thank you so much, again. I cannot be anymore thankful as this could have been very hurtful to the start of my business. Much love!

The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. They do seem to specialize in cold press soap and I'm more of a melt and pour gal, at this point but, there is something for everyone. Their scent and colour selections are amazing! They also have a ton of supplies for all body care specialties. A great place to check out.

First time at Wind Point. They came highly recommended. The ladies were very knowledgeable, helpful & answered all my questions. I left their perfectly organized store with all the confidence I need to make gift soaps. Thank you from Judy Walters from The House of Van Gogh in Calgary.

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They do not rush you at all. I went in today 10 min prior to closing and they were happy to answer any questions. The store has a good variety of candle supplies. Highly recommend. Prices are good as well.

The store has expanded in the last few months, which has been great. Great prices. Classes will no longer be available which is a bit of a bummer because they have all kinds of products I wish I knew how to incorporate into my handmade products. Pleasant staff; clean and well organized store.
