Wild Blue Yonder Revelstoke Rafting

Original review: Not sure if it was incompetence, malice, dishonesty or a combination of all three from the management but I found this to be a terrible place to work. I wasn’t impressed by their safety protocols and was generally disappointed with how they handled situations (safety and otherwise) on the river. I would not recommend their courses, river trips, or employment due to how disorganized and unsafe I thought they were compared to other rafting companies (in Revelstoke and elsewhere) I have worked around and in. 1st response from Owners: Richard Maggs volunteered with us in our off-season a number of years ago in Grande Cache, AB. He was a general volunteer, and left just as our training season began. He had no relevant experience and did not participate in any of our training programs, nor wend on a commercial trip with us. He stayed with is for 3 months in the winter and seemed to enjoy the experience. We are note sure if this is a hacker posting with his name or what basis he would have to form such a negative opinion of something he did not participate in. Our Trip advisor reviews are a good testimony to our guest experience.Our workaway host account reviews (how Richard came to us as a volunteer) are a good testimony as to our staff and volunteer experiences. Review Edit in response to Owners first comment: Just to be clear I did work here for three months from May to June of 2018 as a raft guide. I went on 41 commercial river trips with this company. I did both the Swiftwater Rescue Training and the Raft guide training program in Grande Cache. I have been kayaking, canoeing, and rafting whitewater for over 15 years, have been a river guide for over 10 years, and was asked to help rewrite portions of the safety manual of this company during my employment. 2nd response from Owners: Richard Maggs joined us for our Raft Guide training program, which has been independently audited by a whitewater risk management company. He was certified through our program as a Class 3 raft guide. He did have some problems fitting in with the culture of our organization, but was respectful with his complaints, which our management tried to resolve with a mutually beneficial solution. Richard decided to finish his employment with us at the end of July (after 2 months) and it was an amicable departure. After, he did file a complaint with Employment Standards, but it was found there were no grounds for his grievance. It's unfortunate that Richard has chosen to comment with such negativity on our company. Our Trip Advisor reviews are a good testimony to our guest experience. Our Workaway host account reviews are a good testimony as to our staff and volunteer experiences. We wish Richard all the best in his future endeavours. 2nd Edit: The owner of this company is also the president of at least one of the « independent » organisations that ratify their safety and instruction programs. It is also common for them to forego their own safety protocols on and off the water. If by « problems fitting in » you mean I got suspicious about how often mine and my co-workers paycheques were wrong and you refused to have meaningful conversations about correcting the errors for weeks on end; by « tried to resolve with a mutually beneficial soloution » you mean that you tried to be sneakier in the manners in which you tried to steal from your employees; and by « amicable departure » you mean I was very relieved to be away from such an unpleasant environment then I believe that sums up our history accurately. The fact that reviews have been disabled on both indeed and glassdoor is a very accurate representation of how the company treats its employees and responds to criticism.

I have been rafting with this great group on more than one occasion in both their locations, they are fantastic! They are so much for their guests, as someone who has worked in the customer service industry for a long time I am always blown away by the service they provide! What a great company to have an amazing adventure with!

Having gone down the river both as a former guide and a guest with friends, I have nothing but positive things to say about this company, the owners and the coworkers. Working with a company who values the happiness and safety of their guides, and who focus on enhancing the customer experience was one of my favorite parts of working with Wild Blue Yonder. Thanks for everything Yo and Gina - can't wait to come rafting with you again soon!

Great organization. All fun, friendly and very professional people. Went rafting with my 10 and 12 year old, and absolutely loved every moment. Our kids also got to sit on the front side of the raft (feet out), and get soaking wet, which was fun on the sunny day we had. Towards the end there's a supersoaker battle between the two rafts. The guides are really the stars, as they make it a fantastic experience for adults and kids alike. Would highly recommend this organization

Had an amazing time rafting with the guys. The day was well-organized and safe. We have all been rafting before and what an awesome experience this was! The instructors were great, with our kids. Highly recommended!

I have been on numerous trips with Wild Blue Yonder, my family and I have loved every trip! I will never forget when my son was 3 (bhis first rafting trip ) and squealing with delight as we went over rapids and the glacial cold waters splashed his face. My daughter absolutely loved every minute of her pirate adventure a number of years later. We have all enjoyed our overnight adventures... The staff has made all of the trips so memorable! Always fun ! My kids keep asking, when can we go rafting with them again? I highly recommend any trip with them!

Absolutely had a blast!! Our guide Freeman Wasdal was awesome!! Definitely recommend taking a raft trip with them!!! All the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Cant wait to go again!!!

We rafted the Illecillewaet with Kylie and had the best time. Not only was she a great guide but she rescued our daughter who fell into the Woolie Bully rapid! We spent almost three hours on the river. The weather was rainy and a bit chilly, but that’s not controllable. Ice tea and cookies at the end were a nice touch. We would definitely recommend.
