Velik Hobbe - Sales/ Customer Service
Velik grew up in a musical family in France. He began playing the cello at age 4, and at age 12 was accepted into the National Conservatory of France, where he studied until moving to Canada in 2010. In addition to playing with various orchestras and chamber groups as a cellist, Velik also enjoys playing piano. He is passionate about most genres of music, including classical, jazz, fiddle, classic country, and classic rock.
Though Velik is our newest staff member, he has already formed strong relationships with our customers. His years of experience in music have helped him work with teachers, students and professionals alike. He finds great satisfaction in helping them choose the right instrument, bow, and accessories. His trained ear and genuine enthusiasm are among the assets he brings to our shop.
Whenever time permits, Velik can be found at his cabin in Jaffray, BC.

They were trying to convince me to trade in my German made violin to ‘upgrade’ to one made in China. Very disappointing service. I felt there was a lack of openness and honesty. I would not go to CA Hill again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In all my dealings with VA Hill, they are friendly, helpful, but above all, go the extra mile again and again! This Christmas we needed a bow for a viola in a hurry, and didn’t have time to drive to Calgary. They tried out all their bows on their viola to see which one would sound best on that instrument. Rushed it out to us the very next morning, and it made it here with a day to spare! Where do you get that level of service anymore?! I would just like to say “thank you” for your understanding and kindness, and sending us the best bow!

The attendants gave me a thorough explanation of how to care for my instrument and helped me figure out a timeline for repairs and maintenance. I had my sound post adjusted, strings replaced and a new bridge cut. My violin sounds way better than before I brought it in. Every one here is experienced and passionate, I cannot recommend them enough!

My wife and I are about to start violin lessons, and we went into the store knowing nothing. Velik spent a considerable amount of time teaching us about violins, giving us honest recommendations, and fit us to some rentals that were of great quality. I haven’t had this level of customer service anywhere else. Thanks to VA Hill Fine Strings! We can’t wait to improve and purchase some violins from them one day!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I stopped by V. A Hill Strings on Jan 29th last Saturday in the afternoon and was greeted by two young lady staff at the shop. Vickie the owner was also working in the office too on that date, said hi to her as well (knew Vickie through my initial on-line form inquiry prior visiting the shop). I was looking to buy a new set of adult violin outfit to pick up my childhood playing interest, Talia served me by showing 8 different sets of violins that fits within my budget and need. She played each one of the violins in front of me in letting me to choose what I like best. I am into singing thus I picked out the one that I felt it sounded and echoed the best along with the matching bow, carrying case, shoulder rest, etc. to make my set complete. Talia helped me throughout the entire purchasing process patiently with a smile, played me with her good testing music and made my time at the shop with great pleasure.
I would highly recommend V. A Hill Fine Strings for all your violin needs in western Canada! :)
