About The Yoga Studio

Founded in 1996 by Valery Petrich and David McAmmond, The Yoga Studio of Calgary was the first commercial studio on the scene in Calgary. Since then, the studio name has been synonymous with quality and a leading edge approach to educating the public on how yoga can help them reach their best potential. Since icon Lillias Folan came from Cincinnati for its grand opening in April of 1996, many others followed; Dr.Karankikar, David Swenson, Beryl Birch, Judith Lasater, Aadil Palkhivala, Nischala Devi, Swami Veda, Father Joseph Pereira, and Rama Vernon. They have all left their indelible footprint on our growth. In 25 years, The Yoga Studio of Calgary has matured to be a recognized leader in all things yoga.

I have been practicing at the Yoga Studio North in Ranchlands for over five years. I love the variety of classes available. The teachers are superb, and the atmosphere of the studio is welcoming. A great place for yogis of all ages and experience levels!

I love the classes held at the Ranchlands location of the Yoga Studio North. The atmosphere of the studio is wonderful. The classes that I attend the most often at this studio location is yin yoga on either Tuesday or Friday (taught by Debby Sereda), mixed level Tuesday evening (taught by Joanna Ng) and yoga nidra Monday (taught by Nicole Nicholson). These ladies are amazing yoga instructors; they understand both how to teach the practise of yoga and how our bodies work. It's amazing place and I love that it is located minutes from home.

I love this studio! The atmosphere is welcoming and the variety of classes offered is exceptional. They have warm classes (30 degrees) which are perfect for warming up muscles but not so hot that you want to melt. Instructors are passionate, knowledgeable and offer modifications to suit all levels. They are all very approachable and happy to help improve your practice in any way they can. This studio also offers a wide selection of workshops throughout the year. I have tried other studios over the years, and this is one is my favourite by far!

I have been going to The Yoga Studio North for for two years. The two locations offer a wide variety of classes that suit most everyone's needs. There are Discover classes for beginners, and mixed level classes for folks wanting to be challenged a bit more. There are specialty classes for seniors and for plus sized women and they offer the first plus sized class for men! The teachers are very welcoming when I come to class. And I feel safer doing yoga here because of the use of props and the attention to detail to get the poses done correctly. I would highly recommend you giving this studio a try. You will be glad that you did!

The instructors are excellent, knowledgeable and delightful individuals. Great Studios to practice yoga, feel good, and meet likeminded people. There are a variety of class offerings through the week and weekend workshops too, which is wonderful for trying different things. I am grateful for the calm and peacefulness of the studios and staff, and the classmates I have met practicing here. It’s been a wonderful experience. :)

I’ve been coming to The Yoga Studio of Calgary for over one year now after years and years of trying out different studios - it is hands down my favourite yoga studio. They have an amazing variety of different classes for all skill levels and each and every one of their instructors brings their unique knowledge and personality to the practices – they’re all amazing individuals and instructors! Regardless of body type or fitness level, once you get on the mat, the instructors really do stand by and encourage you. Marcy, in particular, is an amazing instructor. She is such a kind hearted individual and you tell she teaches yoga from the heart and it shines through in her classes. She truly cares about you and your practice. Marcy brings in these two-sided chips that allow you to tell her whether she can adjust your position if you need it, or, if you’re not feeling like being bothered, you can indicate it on your chip. But, like I said earlier, all of the instructors there are amazing - I have never been disappointed in any of the classes there. My favourite classes are the Yoga Flow classes, especially if it’s in a warm room! They definitely make you sweat but feel at peace at the same time – going to yoga classes here is literally my happy place. Many of the Yoga Flow classes are challenging and extremely rewarding, allowing for a more intense and fulfilling practice. If you want a more relaxing, meditative class, the Restorative Yoga or Yin Yoga classes are great for that! I also have lower back issues and love going to the Yoga for Better Back classes. I would HIGHLY recommend The Yoga Studio of Calgary, I’ve tried so many around the city and this is by far the best one.

The class I attended was wonderful, a vinyasa flow that got me sweating. The instructor Lili was very encouraging and interactive with the students and we got laughing a couple times. Wonderful class. I couldn't find the studio at first, decided to call in to get directions. It's on the second story of the building, go through the main entrance beside Dairy Queen and left down the upper hall to unit 200. It's a cute little studio, mirrors along one wall. There were only 5 of us in the room for the live class, which fit us wonderfully. I can imagine the room getting a little cramped if there's over 10 people. Otherwise, lovely studio!

I am new to yoga and started streaming classes 6 months ago. I am extremely pleased with the process and the instruction. The teachers are professional, knowledgeable and provide concise instructions so very easy to follow. And I am noticing the benefits. I do 2 or 3 classes a week and my range of motion has improved considerably. Plus the benefit of taking 75 minutes out of my day just for me has been a blessing.
