Gather with friends and family to enjoy old-world flavours - Sabor.ca

In 2008, childhood friends Christian Mena and Adelino Oliveira opened SABOR Restaurant with a vision—to highlight both their special talents and bring Edmonton an incredible dining experience using the freshest ingredients, old-world flavours, and a level of hospitality Edmonton yearned for. With warmth, passion, and dedication—Christian, Lino and the entire team at SABOR strive to provide service excellence and create a welcoming place to gather with friends and family.

Born in Chile and Portugal respectively, Christian and Lino spent their childhood growing up together in Edmonton’s North End—a cultural melting pot. Surrounded by the food and music of family, friends, and neighbours—the duo started to plan their futures.

Christian started a singing career as lead singer of Latin-pop-funk band Maracujah!!, a local favourite, before moving on to his role as Roger opposite Neil Patrick Harris’s Mark in a touring performance of Rent in the late 1990s. With stardom on the horizon, Christian realised home was where his heart was—and headed back to Edmonton.

Inspired by his parents’ heritage and love for food, Lino and his wife Debbie moved to Portugal in 1993 to open a restaurant on the country’s north coast. By learning from local fishermen and delving into the treasured recipes of his family, Chef Lino created his own special technique that marries the Iberian flavours of Spain and Portugal with a focus on hand-selected seafood.

In 2007, with the downturn in the European economy and some urging from Christian, Lino and Debbie returned to Edmonton with over a decade of experience in Portugal under their belts. Soon, planning was underway to open a restaurant fueled by their combined passions for food and music—the result was their lifelong dream come true, SABOR.

Featuring the flavours of Iberian coastal cuisine using sustainable seafood—served alongside the passion and energy of live music with a Latin flare—SABOR brings its guests into the hearts of the two friends who worked together to build a dream.

I took my Husband to Sabor for his birthday. They have a warm and friendly atmosphere. We started with the Piri piri dusted calimari and grilled artichokes ( the artichokes have alot of garlic) I had the Chilean sea bass with black risotto, it was to die for. My husband had the mixed paella, he enjoyed it but found the chicken a little dry. Our server was wonderful. I would say I will definitely eat at Sabor again.

WOW. The atmosphere, the service, the food, the cocktails, the live music - all I can say is wow! Can’t wait to go again! We were stuffed from supper and still decided to have a second supper here because everything looked so good! And the espresso martini’s, WOW! For food we got the Lobster Risotta, Brussels sprouts, stuffed peppers, calamari and olives

For a mystery dinner for a special occassion, this place hit the mark. The atmosphere was cozy and quiet. Our waiter was beyond attentive and courteous throughout our meal. We decided to go with the nightly special, and boy we were glad. My wife and I enjoy our seafood, we had 7 different kinds that night. All of which tasted amazing, even had to take some home. The portions were very generous, still with room for dessert. The total bill for our night was well worth it, my wife has already asked me to go back next week.

Holy dina, what a meal!! Everything was perfect. Wife and I got the family $65/person and a green tea each. We were stuffed by the time the main course came. The shrimp was the best I've ever eaten in my life, I wish there was more. Mussels and clams were incredible. The striped sea bass and the salmon were cooked to perfection. The desserts were delectable. The service was almost TOO good. I wish I remembered our waiter's name... dang.. he was attentive, polite, and had amazing service. I kinda feel bad I didn't tip him more. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. Oh, and I usually DESPISE seafood. So as someone who hates eating fish, never have enjoyed mussels and clams, and wasn't looking forward to this meal (I went because it's my wife's favorite restaurant which she has always eaten at without me.. because I hate seafood..) in the least of ways but I am so happy to say I was 100% flipped upside down and couldn't have enjoyed a single second of this experience more than I did. I wish I could give 6 stars out of 5.

My fiancΓ© and I’s parents and grandparents spent an incredible evening at Sabor in the private room off of the main restaurant. The food, atmosphere and service was amazing, and we were so grateful they set it up so beautifully. We started with two delicious charcuterie boards and wine, shrimp and scallop appetizers next, followed by piri piri chicken AND dessert?! It was so so so so good. Big shoutout to Leo, who was our phenomenal server; kind, attentive, and on it, he helped make the night even more perfect. Cannot recommended this gem of an Edmonton restaurant enough!

Heard good things about this restaurant and was looking forward to trying it but was disappointed. The restaurant decor and ambience appeared sophisticated and high end, staff were friendly. The food is pretty pricey but underwhelming for the most part. It started off strong with both kinds of bread along with truffle butter and chicken and duck pate which were absolutely delicious. The rest of the meal after that was rather lackluster...I ordered medium rare steak as I normally do and this was the first time I had a very tough piece of striploin cooked to medium-well/medium at best. I know the picture comes out with a red tinge but the first bite was definitely well done, no pink at all until about 1/3 way into the steak. Hardly worth $42 IMO and that was just the steak alone without any sides. My friends had seafood paella and lobster risotto which were both a bit undercooked as the rice were still very hard. The brussel sprouts were tender and nicely charred though under seasoned, however, the buttery sauteed mushrooms were well seasoned. All in all, a disappointing experience given the high price tag mismatched with the inconsistencies in their dishes. I have no doubt the ingredients were of high quality however the execution did not do it justice.

We had a girls night at Sabor and loved the experience! It's been awhile since we've been out and about but glad we choose here. For $65/person we had a fantastic seafood feast! Three seafood based appetizers, a lobster risotto followed by three amazing deserts. We did bring my 4 year old daughter, so it is family oriented however a bit on the pricey side for an evening out with the family. Would definitely recommend for a nice date night with hubby or a great meal with the gal pals. Our waiter was a little bit on the quiet side and we are quite outgoing so there was a bit of a personality clash that brought the experience down, however will still recommend to friends/family!
