Rock Water Aikikai is a safe and welcoming dojo for Aikido practice. I have a teen and a child in their program and they love it. Collaborative with and respectful of kids, the dojo is really a special place for learning a martial art, it's philosophy and living with respect for self and others. Go Rock Water!

My 8 yr old son attends 3 classes per week at Rock Water Aikikai. The environment is so positive, inclusive, and supportive. Martin Sensei is just the right blend of playful and enthusiastic, patient and calm. He instills in the children a sense of responsibility, a sense of community, and respect for themselves and others. Martin Sensei's dedication is unparalleled. The past year has presented so many logistical challenges for running children's programs, but this dojo has just worked non-stop to create ways to train together safely when it's permitted, and transition to other great offerings as regulations change. Their attention to detail with Covid-related procedures and protocols is commendable. Thank you!

I first met Martin Sensei quite a few years before he became Sensei. It was via a few seminars thru the years. We kept in contact thru FB. I practiced in New West aikikai where my Sensei retired this year. After 1 & 1/2 years of lock down & no training, had a chance to visit Martin Sensei's class last week. I didn't participate, only as an audience. As class progressed, I noticed the facial expressions of my fellow young aikidokas ( as I am in my late 60s ) full of positve energies. Not one shred of aggressiveness. Total cooperation with each other. As I sat there watching, my memories of that feeling of by gone years came rushing back. I became envious & a little sad for myself that my home dojo is more or less dissolved & to come across a dojo that I find inspiring is very special to me. My Sensei always supported me to visit other dojos, regardless of styles. To feel & get inspired from different Senseis. And I'm grateful for the experiences. The guidance of a Sensei I can connect with in training is most valuable. I found a dojo with Martin Sensei that I can only participate in spirit. That made me somewhat heavy heart. But happy to find it. Kudos to you. Sensei Martin.

My two teenage daughters train at Rock Water Aikikai. They have found much more than just self defense through this martial art. The have both become ITP (Instructor Training Program) students and have grown through their leadership training and experiences. As well as these aspects, they have made close friendships with other students. As a parent during the pandemic, I feel confident in the time the girls spend at Rock Water Aikikai. The precautions that are in place keep all staff and students as safe as possible. I am also grateful that my daughters have had this outlet, continuously throughout the pandemic. Martin Sensei has been very aware of the benefits of this connection and has done everything he can to continue offering classes in some form. Between Zoom classes, outdoor practices, to socially distanced "mat pods", he has worked hard to provide a sense of normal. I highly recommend this dojo, to anyone wanting to start a martial art.

My son has been learning Aikido with Martin for a few years now and I can’t say enough about how well this Dojo is run. The kids have tons of fun while learning Aikido in a very professional and respectful environment. Martin also provides unique opportunities to learn skills from visiting Sensei’s and enormously popular weekend retreats filled with group activities, games and hikes in beautiful locations. I highly recommend this Dojo!

As a fellow practitioner, I have always admired Martin Sensei as an instructor, and in particular his dedication to getting young people involved in Aikido. My daughter currently practices with the teens class, and enjoys the friendly, inclusive atmosphere, as well as the tailored approach to training. Highly recommended!

Five stars for Rock Water Aikikai! The classes are impeccably run with consistent lesson structure, regular rotation of techniques, and the perfect balance of fun and discipline. the head Sensei is kind, enthusiastic, and highly respected by the students. They have gone above and beyond to ensure that the dojo stayed open whenever possible during the pandemic and were amazingly quick to change gears to online or outdoor classes when in person classes were not possible. The best part about Rock Water Aikikai, in my opinion, is the great flexibility and individuality offered in a structured environment, which has allowed my neurodiverse child to thrive in a martial art that they love. Rock Water has created a warm, inclusive community and the students genuinely want to be there.
