Mountain Thyme Getaway

Unser zweistöckiges Häuschen hat nicht nur aussen hübsch ausgesehen, sondern war auch innen, liebevoll mit unzähligen witzigen, praktischen und schönen Gegenständen ausstaffiert. Hauptthema Skisport und Geschichte. Ein kleines Kunstwerk. Barkerville ist gut aber Wells ist Authentisch. Das ganze Ort besteht aus farbigen Häusern, die meistens auch ein sehr gut gemaltes Bild verziert. Das ganze ist sehr zu empfehlen.

We stayed at Mountain Thyme Getaway and were not let down in any way. We rented the whole guest house for a great 3 night weekend at the end of February so we could enjoy the Wells Gourmet Ski Tour and some of the other winter wonders the area has to offer in snow shoeing and nordic skiing. There were 8 of us spanning three generations there as a gathering place for us from Victoria, Port Coquitlam, and Prince George. The youngest children (4 and 6) had a great safe time here. The hosts were fantastic, attentive, accommodating and interested as always. We were too busy relaxing to watch TV or DVDs but did have some fun spinning some of their vinyl on the record player - nice touch as we had 4 baby boomers in the group. We were even able to connect with the outside via WiFi. This is as others have said an eclectic, charming 1940s old miner's cabin that has been thoughtfully renovated with We were warm. The main floor offered plenty of room for us to gather, mover around and have fun. The spacious front porch accommodated our winter gear and us when we would first arrive back from an outing. The bathrooms worked well for our group with the shower and the bath and the bedding worked perfect. We were easily able to make meals as well with the full fridge, great hot plates, microwave, etc. Heck, next time maybe we'll break out my fathers recipe and do a turkey on the Barby! Meals across the street at the Bears Paw are always excellent as well. Access to Wells in the winter was no problem and the snow is great. We would definitely consider this as a stop either at the beginning/end or both when doing the Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit or when doing a winter excursion to the lakes on backcountry skis with White Gold - our host are knowledgeable of all activities in this area. Perfect place to stay when visiting Barkerville too. The area also offers Art, Bicycling, and Hiking opportunities - the area has so much to offer. As well we just love interacting with the people of Wells. They are so special. We will be back!

After deciding "spur of moment" to travel from Kelowna to see Barkerville with my fiancee, we called ahead from Quesnel hoping to find somewhere to stay upon arrival. Luckily, the Mountain Thyme Getaway cottage was free for the night. The cottage is located on the main road in Wells, BC which is about 8km before you get to Barkerville. Growing up in Vancouver and now living in Kelowna, I have to say it was a nice change of pace to be in such a lovely little town. The main road consists of maybe six old historic structures which includes the getaway cottage and right across the road, the Frog on the Bog gift shop. Both owned and operated by two of the nicest people we've ever met in Cheryl and Dave, our experience was so positive that we will definitely be back! The cottage was very clean and extremely quaint with a lot of interesting items and reading material about the areas history. If you have any questions about past happenings, Dave is very well read and more than willing to share his knowledge of Wells and Barkerville. If you're looking for a nice quiet getaway, where you're surrounded by really nice down to earth people, Wells, BC is where you'll find it. Thank you again so very much Cheryl and Dave!
