The government made announcement on Jan 3, 2022 that gyms would be closing for at least 3 weeks due to Covid. Mayfair decided that they should continue to bill members during the shutdown even though they cannot provide the services for which members are paying.
They wrote "Mayfair Clubs is asking for your understanding as we continue to process membership billing during this 3-week period. This will allow Mayfair Clubs to retain and support our employees during this time."
It's very nice that they want to retain and support their employees but this was an arbitrary decision that I had no input on. Had I been asked, I would have considered it - but I wasn't asked. They are making a decision for their membership which they are not entitled to do. This is grossly unfair.
I sent an email to Mayfair removing their authorization to charge my credit card on January 3, 2022. On January 4, 2022 a charge from Mayfair appeared on my credit card statement. They scampered to put through this billing prior to the usual billing date. This is unacceptable behaviour.
Darlene Holland did not return my husband's call which means I can only reach her through email and she has refused to credit us with January's fees because they need 30 days notice of cancelation which makes no sense in this scenario.
It would be akin to a restaurant charging me for dinner despite the fact that they had to cancel my dinner reservation, or my physiotherapist charging me for an appointment they had to cancel ...due to Covid. I could go on.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I think members are upset because you dont need 100% of membership dues to pay employees as you've been explaining- that doesn't make sense. 100% of membership dues cover all your expenses and provide a profit. Also, no other clubs are charging their members during lockdown. Finally, there are government programs in place to help your business pay your employees and your bills, programs that us taxpayers will be paying for a long time. It's not a question of money, it the obvious way members are being misled that is aggravating.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Accidental discovery, because I got invited to a Christmas dinner. It is a beautiful club with luxurious facilities for exercise and fitness! There was a room that fit 15 people easily, spaced out and the service provided by Siva was amazing. Food is incredibly affordable. I had the blackened salmon with rice and vegetables. I would too gladly go back again!
