About Lethbridge Animal Care & Control

The Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Alberta SPCA) is a registered charity dedicated to the welfare of animals. We encourage the humane treatment of animals through enforcement of animal protection legislation and through education programs throughout Alberta.

The Alberta SPCA has been at the forefront of animal welfare advances since being established in 1959. We were instrumental in establishing the Animal Protection Act of Alberta in 1967, which is among the best animal protection legislation in Canada. We work closely with other agencies in animal welfare, agriculture, education, violence prevention and other areas to provide the best level of protection for animals.

The Alberta SPCA is a charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. We operate with the support of our members, donors, volunteers and the public who report suspected animal abuse and neglect. All donations to the Alberta SPCA are used to support our programs in Alberta.

Really friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. Clearly love the animals and are patient with questions and prospective owners needs. Definitely check them out and donate if you have the ability to do so ?

They messed up my appointment times twice and I had to share appointments with someone else, the woman who works there was extremely unprofessional and rude to my sister and I one day we went to visit, and we found out we didn’t get the dog we were visiting when we showed up for an appointment that was made days prior and the dog wasn’t there and had already been taken home and they didn’t even have the decency to call us or leave a voicemail to tell us we didn’t get her like they’re meant to for every applicant for a pet. Extremely disappointed and I would give them zero stars if I could.

The dog I intended to adopt was lovely, however it was consistently heartbreaking to see plants that are poisonous to dogs found outside the building as well as garbage in the grass area, which dogs can/do put in their mouths. I also had to wait 3 weeks instead of 2, because people applied for the same a dog at the last moment my 2 weeks were up. even though we were the first applicants, I am absolutely heart broken. Loss of gas, loss of time, no animal. It's a painful process to go through all for nothing.

Not really impressed. Called to have someone help with distressed cat in my yard. Didn't move, just layed there crying. Didn't want to chance picking up-could hurt it more, scare it, anything. Dogs didn't make it move. Called a few times, left messages. Gave my number and address. No response at all!!!

We apoted our pug mix from this shelter. They where absolutely amazing. They let us stay with our dog for over an hour since no appointments followed each time. Their application was simple and the process went without any hitches. The adoption fee was super reasonable and the staff was so friendly. Thank you so much for our newest family member ❀

If I could rank the woman who answers the phone after hours, I would rank her a Negative star. My daughter found a badly injured cat and called the Animal Shelter for help. The woman shut her quickly. The woman on the phone acted like I was pulling her teeth out with pliers. She was awful, and needs to find a different job. On the other hand, THE YOUNG MAN THAT SHOWED UP TO HELP ME WAS WONDERFUL!!!!!! He was smart, professional, kind, and caring. I apologized for pulling him away from what he was doing, and he answered with a laugh, "it's my job". The 5 star rank is for DEREK ,and the woman who took my call should get sand in her eyes.

Management is oblivious. Daughter of the original owner has less than half a brain and is running the place with no experience. She has no skills to be doing what she's doing. Be aware of the animals you adopt, and the care they were given. Many are sick and neglected. Medical record will contain lies, don't bother trusting it unless it was born and cared for elsewhere. Pathetic this establishment has become what it has. I never thought I'd tell people to avoid a shelter until now... I volunteered here for years. Please close down or figure your situation out because the manager that passed away would never stand for what you have allowed to emulsify.

Two or three weeks ago, my friends went to Lethbridge (drove from Calgary) to see a dog with the whole family. Doors were closed because new management took over. (They didn't call them to cancel the appointment). They drove for nothing. Everyday, my friend called to see if she can get the dog. Paperwork was being done... Today, a man called and got the dog.... my friends are devastated... what kind of process do you have to give hope and take it away? This is inacceptable and unethical. I would give NO STAR.
