Had GF pick up challah and a strudel a month ago, the strudel was smaller than usual & something didn't taste "quite right".
Went there the other day & got a challah & a knish ( smaller than the usual).
The knish was AWFUL- they chopped up whole red onions, I mean WHOLE red onions..the thing was full of onion skins!
The door to the bakery was broken & the place is a mess.
Apparently new owners.
Won't be going back there ever again.
Too bad :-(

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Have you ever had their doughnuts? Wow! Prepared to be blown away because they’re incredible. Another parent had brought them to a party once and now I go to Richmond especially for them around Hanukkah. Never had anything else like ‘em!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ New owners. Quality is not the same. Old owners made it with love. New owners make it for profit. You can taste the diffrence. My favorite pastry is now bland and flavorless. I give them a year before they close

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The worst chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. It was so bland and dry and awful. I bought their bagels as well and they were also very dry and stale tasting. I prefer to try and support local, but I would probably opt to get my bakery items at the IGA next door. Hope their quality improves in the future.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For $9 for 6 Donuts the ratio of jelly and Dough is just bad and look at the picture of the donut with custard (Oh wait where is the custard!)
You think a fresh local bakery would be better then a chain store like IGA Bakery but hell no IGA is cheaper and 100% better then this Bakery and it next door to this bakery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ All of their stuff has gone downhill.
1. Challah-dry and not as flavourful as it was before.
2. Sugar cookies- bland, stale, only a few sprinkles (like come on).
3. Sesame bread- no taste.
4. The store’s atmosphere is reminiscent of the Soviet Union right before its collapse. Sparsely populated shelves, poor presentation, seemingly stale products.This honestly wouldn’t bother me as much if the product was good. But it’s not.
I grew up on Garden City Bakery. The place had the best stuff. I’ve gone 3 more times after the first disappointment to see if it was just an off day.It’s not an off day. Their product is bad. The taste and the texture of all my childhood favourites are not the same, and they are not good. I’ve discussed with many others who’ve frequented the bakery, they’ve all said the quality is now horrible.Apparently they have new owners... Garden City Bakery is now just a memory. The Bakery that I knew does not exist anymore. May its memory be a blessing.
