★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I looked all over at many schools and had met many instructors over the years. I have a backround in martial arts and lost a great teacher to politics and found it really difficult to find the right person to train under. Guess im kind of picky.
These guys work as a team the whole school helps you grow and everyone benifits. He has real world knowledge as he is a cop you can trust he knows what works and what doesn't.
In the end hes a great teacher who wont blow smoke up your back and dosent waste time with unnessesary things. Hes also humble and will admit when he finds out ways to improve what he knew so everyone can improve together.
It is a great family atmosphere that the most timid or toughest will find the right mix to become a great person and have fun while you challenge yourself.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Esteem Havoc JKD is one of the best places to train in Calgary. The variety of classes makes learning martial arts challenging but also gives me a complete and rounded training program. I wanted to join a club that offered more than just Karate or Kickboxing, and also wanted to learn Bruce Lee’s style of Jeet Kune Do. Not only are there classes in JKD, but also classes in Karate, Ju Jitsu, Catch as Catch Can wrestling, Serrada Escrima, and small circle Ju Jitsu. I was nervous to start, as I had no background but quickly learned that the training is intense, and everyone wanted to help me grow. Atmosphere is awesome, training is legit, and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get in shape, challenge themselves and have fun along the way.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jay Cooper and Sarah Jade Folk who together own and teach at this academy are the most knowledgeable and friendly teachers of martial arts I have ever had the experience to train under. They make the experience of learning martial arts interesting and functional. The students and instructors are very friendly too, they make you more than welcome and you feel you have become part of the family. Everyone helps each other and never lets anyone struggle . I fully recommend this Martial arts academy to anyone, children would benefit from the Karate classes to adults with JKD, JIU-JITSU and weapons classes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been training here for over half a year. I never felt that I don't want to go. Jay and Sarah are so fun and they make training here a joy. The culture of this place makes it a breeze to always show up.
The training itself toned my body and helped me maintain my summer weight throughout the winter.
It's beautiful. These people deserve a whole temple of trainees.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic facility that's well run, motivating, energetic, and kid/youth/adult friendly. My daughter participated for a few years in their Little Dragons, regular karate classes, and some competition classes. I continue to participate in fitboxing. There's ample room and classes are safely spaced out. I recommend giving them a try!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Phenomenal school with phenomenal instructors. Sensei Sarah and Sifu Jay are business partners, but they could also be considered parents to this family they have created. Each brings their strengths to the table and compliments the other. They create an inclusive and open environment where people are free to be themselves and come together to learn not only about martial arts, but also themselves.
Now from a personal side, Esteem/HAVOC is the only place in Calgary that offers catch-as-catch-can wrestling and the instruction is phenomenal. Jay takes you through what works and omits the garbage that won't. He makes wrestling come alive in a unique way that I have not seen duplicated. He cares about his craft and cares to preserve its legacy. What you get goes beyond the amateur style and omits the theatrics of sports entertainment; it's wrestling at its core: powerful, unrestrained, civilized. As a lifelong wrestling fan and as someone who's looking to compete at some open events at the ripe old age of close to 40, I trust elements of my training solely to Jay and "Bulldog Catch".
I wholeheartedly recommend this program and hope you take the time to check it out whenever you can. You will not be disappointed.
