★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our session with Erica was the pre-IVF mandatory therapy session (translation = money grab). Pre-IVF, this is pretty standard at fertility clinics. Our clinic has several therapists, so I had thought we'd have some latitude with this, but we were assigned to Erica. The session we had was awful, in fact, I'll go so far as to say that it was useless. At no point did Erica seem to be listening. Her follow-up questions had nothing / little to do with anything we had said. It's as if she had us on mute while we were talking and was doing something else altogether instead of listening (she insisted on a phone session, even though I offered to come in in person or use video chat). She was patronizing and condescending. None of the questions she asked were relevant. She talked to us as though we had no idea what IVF was or what the OHIP funding was all about. Trust me, most people / couples who reach this point in their journey are very aware of what's next (as it's already been explained to them by their doctor, the clinic's liaison, and likely some nursing staff). Nobody just wakes up one morning and waltzes into a fertility clinic asking to please take them on as an IVF patient. Oddly, Erica did WAY more talking than listening during the session. It was highly uncomfortable. Later on in my process, I sought out another one of my clinic's affiliated therapists, who proved to be very helpful and facilitated a wonderfully useful session.
