Generally positive experience. We adopted a cat and she is friendly. They went over her health history and provided other details and recommendations. Their online software is new and really bad. The facility is gorgeous.

very rude, awful place to be. my dads dog got out and my dad is a senior and they were very rude to him and treated him bad. he doesn’t have pictures of his dog because he’s not good with technology but apparently the spca get to judge if you own your own dog or not. i had to leave work to go help my dad because of the treatment he was getting. i was even on the phone with them and they kept saying β€œi’m confident this is not your dog” and i show up in person then they say β€œoh i’m confident this is your dog” i had to show at least 4 people the same pictures and explain the story 4 times to each of them. they also told my dad 2 different stories about how they obtained his dog.

When I called they didn't answer right away, but eventually called back the same day. I had found two new born kittens that I had surrendered to them. They said they had a 70% survival rate but it was better than nothing.

We adopted a dog that needed a $1000 surgery two days after adoption which was conveniently not caught on their exit exam. Their handlers were not comfortable handling the dogs they were responsible for, causing behavior that only existed at the shelter. So i have concerns on their ability to take care of animals. Would never adopt from them again.

Great people helping out in a big way. My girlfriend and I found ourselves being welcomed graciously by staff on our second trip to visit the feline residents ready for a home, after we narrowed our choices from the first visit. We ended up adopting a very interesting long haired domestic mix named Barnabas, and he is fantastic. The staff were very patient and understanding when we had one issue with our payment provider, making the process much easier for us. Cheers to you fine ladies and gentlemen ?

We have a large, protective, reactive dog, and were finally able to get a time slot for a one-on-one training session at the Edmonton Humane Society. OMG what an amazing experience. From the moment I was greeted, to the minute we left, the trainers (Katie and John) were FANTASTIC. They listened to our dog's history, listened to my concerns, watched my dog's behaviours, and were able to provide ME with the tools I need to be able to work with my dog. The techniques are ALREADY (after only 1 day) making a HUGE difference with my dog and my ability to walk him where there are other dogs on lead. I can't adequately express my gratitude for this service and the skills of the trainers who assisted me and my dog. I am recommending this service to ANYONE who has a dog with some behavioural challenges, such as reactivity. Thank you to the Edmonton Humane Society for providing this service. I have not only adopted pets from you, but now I can say you've changed my life by assisting me with my dog. THANK YOU!!!

We adopted a dog that clearly has special needs and we’re not advised, creating further distress for the animal when we realized we could not tend to his unique needs. We had an initial meet and greet with our resident dog, and from the few moments they had together we had to make a decision to adopt and pick him up the day after. We were told multiple times that the dog had a clean bill of heath and had a few behavioural issues-not a problem. Day of pickup, he had fecal matter on his hind legs and his fur was severely matted. We took him home and within hours we knew something was wrong with his hind legs and there was a history of physical abuse. Potentially a previous issue from his life a stray however we did not have any idea if he was in pain, the estimated time of the injury, or how to nurture a very emotionally damaged animal. The forms they sent us home with indicated he had had roundworms days before coming home with us. The shelter knew we have multiple resident animals, putting us all at risk. They omitted vital details that would determine whether or not we would be a good household for an animal requiring continuous care, and did not update his online profile accordingly. Their callous attitude towards this animals needs most likely means he will be adopted and then returned once more. They pride themselves on selecting the best adopters yet fail to provide all necessary medical details, update profiles accordingly, and clean their animals. They treat their animals like a cash grab, instead of prioritizing their animals well-being. Highly recommend going elsewhere.

Adopted my cat Cashew (formerly onward) here right before christmas and its the best decision i've ever made! Don't be scared of the cats who may not be the cuddliest or nicest at the shelter. With Cashew, he was so scared we couldn't even touch him in his cage. I brought him home and immediately he turned into a snuggle monster! In his profile when I adopted him they recommend a single person low traffic household, boy was that true! He is scared of anyone thats not me! I live on my own and don't have many visitors, so he's perfect for me. Make sure you read their profiles and make the best decision for yourself and the kitty!
