Coastal Cycles

For over 7 years I took my cycling needs to Recyclistas. I was always taken well care of, but with the advent of the pandemic,  I have kept all shopping etc uber local.  I live close to Coastal Cycles, so I started coming here. I found the owner  knowledgeable , but aggressive. I am aware that we all have different personalities etc so I didnt judge and worked with it. However. This week I brought in my bike for fixing. I was immediately hit with,  do you want a new bike, FIVE times before it was even LOOKED at. By the owner and the mechanic.  The mechanic then did a quick assessment of my needs and gave me a quote. Within an half hour, he called me telling me repeatedly, that my bike, "is a piece of sh*t", that he wouldn't ride it based on how he rides, and that he wont work on it. (Neither he nor the owner had asked me anything about how I ride, prior to the assessment ) I  asked the mechanic if my bike was unsafe. He refused to say it was unsafe, just repeating he wouldn't ride it. I said, I have been riding this bike for years, with no safety qualms, and I will go back to Recyclistas. To that he said, it doesn't matter what they do, "it will come out worse than it has ever been." I said that is illogical. You cant predict that, to which he replied, I know the owners and the people who work there.  I left and took my bike to Recyclistas, who unlike the owner and the mechanic at Coastal Cycles, asked questions about my use, did a full assessment on my bike's needs, and dealt with me appropriately and professionally. There was also no swearing or belittling of other businesses or my bike for that matter. Coastal's treatment of me as a customer was unprofessional, inappropriate, unreasonable, aggressive to the point of bullying, traumatizing, and at the end of the day, completely unnecessary. When I told the people at Recyclistas what had been said about them, they did NOT put down the people at Coastal. That speaks to a business ethic, utterly lacking at Coastal. I am a 50 year old woman and I have MANY years of riding and I will NEVER return to Coastal. Shame on both of you there.

My experience with Coastal Cycles has been wonderful!! The service is the best. I have had them do a few things to my bike and I always ride away happy. They’re always friendly and their service is honest and reasonable.

Superb service. Every time I drop my bike off for a tune-up, I'm presented with a spotlessly clean bike afterward. The staff go over every repair or maintenance task they carried out, often beyond expectation. Crazy affordable as well. Hands down, the best bike shop in Victoria.
