About Co-op Gas Station Crowfoot

History

Calgary Co-op is truly the original “local” grocery store

Back in the mid-1950’s, Calgary Co-op was just getting started; the first store opened downtown on November 15, 1956 with a small but enthusiastic grand opening celebration. Founded by farmers, ranchers, and food producers banding together to sell their wares to a dedicated membership of local buyers, Calgary Co-op is truly the original “local” grocery store.

The idea behind membership in a grocery co-operative like Calgary Co-op was to allow members to own and have an interest in the success of the store—and a say in the products it carries. Members have a financial interest in the success of the cooperative (often through receiving monetary returns based on the frequency of shopping and spending) and in turn they support its success by shopping there.

The grand opening of “store number one,” was held on November 15, 1956, and despite the success and elation at their entrepreneurial venture, it was a small affair. While the local press declined to cover it, Calgary‘s then-mayor Don MacKay was there to cut a ribbon, and the 1000th member joined on that very day in November.

By 1958 membership had climbed to 3,350 and Co-op purchased the land next to the downtown centre for a service station. In 1960 Calgary Co-op had opened its second store, the North Hill Centre on 16th Ave. NE. Membership grew to 5,525, sales reached $2 million, and that time the staff numbered 115. Soon after, more new stores opened including the McLeod Trail Centre (1963), and Brentwood Centre (1965). Membership climbed to 23,038.

Gordon Barker probably says it best: “Calgary co-op was formed by ordinary people who wanted a business they could rely on when others failed to provide them with the services they needed. We must never lose sight of why Calgary Co-op was formed: to serve its members and to be a contributing partner in the community.“

Poor attitude staff who really don't give a @#$ . Usually short lineup and competitive fuel prices. Not a great carwash which is down a lot.

I had a WONDERFUL experience at the Crowfoot Gas bar last week! i had such a friendly man named Dan fuel up my car. I had my puppy with me and he was kind enough to offer him some Milkbones! This quick stop at the gas station truly made my day! Thank you very much, Dan!

Loved to have my cars filled at the Rocky Ridge station but now must go to Crowfoot for "we serve" sevice. Any chance it will come back to Rocky Ridge? Secondly I am sure I did something wrong but the new method of saving on gas has gotten more complicated than it was before. Filled up 2 days ago but no discount cause I did something wrong.......

Super friendly and efficient service. Karl totally brightened my day! It would be awesome if they had credit card machines they could bring around to the window with the tap feature like at restaurants, with a tip option since many people aren't carrying around cash these days.

First the carwash did not work. It did a half cycle. Then we went to drive out. Second please Watch out for the car wash exit door it closes with out warning!! Smashed my dad's trunk. Then I went in to tell them nicely. The lady came out and informed that it was our fault. Wow maybe check the sensors and don't attack your customer. Don't roll the dice this place!

Every single time I come for propane there is only 1 staff member who is qualified to use the propane tank and they are usually working the till. The last two times I’ve gotten a β€œyou have to wait 20-30 mins to get the till covered before I can come outside and help you.” Really frustrating. Then my tank got filled up and they give you a slip and you walk over to the main gas bar to pay. Meanwhile he just left my tank sitting in the parking lot for any one to steal...full. I hate to take my loyalty elsewhere as this is the closest propane place to me, but if I can spare myself up to a half hour wait and theft - then I’m absolutely going to.

The car wash on the right hand side is currently not providing a full "extreme" wash. Only does one color rinse, instead of two (rainbow then purple) and the dryer didn't work. I told them about it and was not offered anything as far as a refund or any sort of help. I got told that it had just been serviced and should be working... well it isn't!
