Checker Cabs - Calgary

Had always used checkered for quite a long time until my lock in fare, wasn’t so locked when the driver decided to increase the fare due to his belief that the trip should cost more. Talked to a supervisor right away on the phone, said I would get a refund, no refund, messaged on Twitter, same response about refund, still no refund, even emailed the contact us email, and over a month later.. no refund.

Well this happens too often and this aint acceptable… and I started to take note and will make a list and send a complain to the company and if i must, I will post the details here. When your drivers accept a booking when i use the app, I am dang lucky if they actually move within 5min. Last time, a few days ago, my husband booked a cab and after 15min, we cancelled because the driver did NOT move at all. NOT an inch. Today, in this cold, i was in a bus shelter at Somerset lrt, waiting for a cab that took my booking request… and after 9min of wait since the car(who was 4min away) wasnt moving on the map. So, I posted a comment asking if he had intentions of coming to me… well after 11min total, he called to say he was coming. There was no other car around when i booked, so not many chances for me there, right? I asked why waiting 11min… i couldnt even understand what he said. I hung up and used Mayfair, who had a car that was 1min away, and arrived right away. They didnt have many available cars either, but that one showed up quickly. I have more than enough!!! I have never have to deal with this type of issue with any other company… what is this??? Thats at least 2/3 of the time this way now!!! Work or go home!!! So, might wanna start to teach your drivers how to take better care of customers, and im going back to Mayfair for #1 choice. They have less cars but they actually show up!!! If your drivers arent ready to leave, when accepting a booking, well they sure dont need more than 2-3min to hang up their phone. If your drivers dont want to work, they need to stay home. I am truly very frustrated with Checkers cabs.

If you get the right driver, its a wonderful ride. But if you get the wrong one, like i get often you get: not stopping at stop signs, drivers cutting people off left and right, sliding all over the road, and then requests for tips. Passengers beware!!

Good luck with their shiny new app. Their drivers hate it and will pick up anyone who waves at them while the person who ordered still gets charged. Driver IMTIAZ #6397 . Nice work to tarnish your company’s reputation. Anybody good who drove for Checker has moved on to better organized cab companies or Uber. Checker is toast. Terrible drivers. Terrible admin. Terrible company. Absolute zeros all around.

I had a great experience. I am a mom who travelled alone with 2 kids. I booked online the night before as our pick up was at our car rental office at 4:30am. My driver was ontime, friendly, helpful and the price was great. Thank you for ending my Calgary trip on a high note!

I used their services Feb 2 to get across downtown. I locked in my fare which I always do because then I can tip the driver well. I no sooner opened the car door and driver was complaining about the locked fare. The drivers need to realize this is a service that is provided and complaints to me get lower tips. But he was great after that and got $8 tip on $12 fare

They arrived to pick me up in a very fast time which is always great and the cab I was in for the ride was extremely clean which is very important considering the world we live in nowadays!! The driver was the only not so good thing about my entire experience and reason for that being he didn't speak very clear or very much at all English which was difficult for me to understand him and difficulty for him to understand me. This being a problem made for a very silent and awkward car ride which I don't really enjoy at all. But for the overall experience I still gave 4 stars because I feel that checkers did deserve that for sure. I would recommend this company to other people and if I could make any suggestions for change in this company it would be to have employees speak a little English so both parties can at least understand what is being said in conversation. Even if it's only the very basics to deal with paying for the cab ride and telling the amount owed from the ride...would make things so much better!!!

I was at emergency at one of the hospitals, put my phone on silent and left it on the cab seat on the way home. The driver found it and returned it to me about 20 minutes later. It is my life line. The cab number was 838 and I thank this driver so much for his kindness!! So thankful there are still people like this and that they drive for Checker. I have always had good experiences with Checker and this one was exceptional!!
