In this past year+ of Covid-19 times I feel moved and privileged to add the following review.... Our dear older friend (whom we shall call Mary) not related to us and without family in Canada, was fortunately able to join the community at Chartwell Royal Park, (CRP) JUST before the Covid-19 issues hit early last year. After an amazing tour in January 2020 lead by Consultant Katharine Boguski, Mary decided right then that CRP was for her; she moved in shortly thereafter. In such trying times visits were largely unavailable to us and her other close friends per Provincial and Federal Covid-rules. Not living in Calgary we were at the mercy of the as yet unknown Management and Staff at CRP to see that Mary adjusted to her new home...and step-up they did!! We are so grateful and humbled by the true caring and attention to detail given to each resident by Kim Grant and her dedicated staff, that mere words cannot convey what we truly feel….just a few high-lights: 1) Kim's weekly newsletter to ALL loved ones on the residents' contact list gives us the comfort of knowing accurately and exactly what is going on with health and other protocols as well as the assurance that Mary is being offered a myriad of stimulating and fun activities to participate in...or not, as she chooses…everything from cards and games to educational webcasts, movies and safe exercise programs 2) Over the Christmas holiday we were able to video chat with Mary much to her delight! This was set up and facilitated totally by CRP staff in the library at a mutually suitable time.... shout out to staff member Shukuru. Mary, of an era where like so many of her peers, neither owns an electronic device nor the skillset to operate one, so appreciates this inclusion made possible. 3) Finally, for Mary’s milestone 90th birthday, staff printed a special photo card and message from us and delivered it to her along with her other flowers, tributes, and a beautiful cake making her feel as special as she is even in absence of the usual family, and friends at celebrations. Then a photo of the 'birthday girl' and gifts was sent along to us to enjoy at a distance.....amazing! In closing, if you are researching retirement residences for a loved one, do yourselves a favour and call Chartwell Royal Park… you will be glad you did and so will your loved one! With appreciation, Val and Greg Warnock Olds, AB

Great staff! They always get things done, no sitting around waiting for "someone else" to do it.

My parents lived here for about a year before my dad's death in January 2018, and my mother is still in residence. They loved it and we love the care they receive there. Homecare came in and helped us care for Dad until 1 day prior to his death, so it is just like being in your own home. The residence is kept very clean, food is good and the staff are superb. They let us know if Mom's behaviour is off, they help her when she has any questions or problems, and they are always kind. The social scene is amazing with putting, bingo, happy hours, live music, special parties, outings, and much more. I understand there is a doctor who comes to see some of the clients, as well as hearing aid personnel and a foot care nurse. The Beauty Parlour is one floor down! There are snacks most mornings, but my parents never wanted more than the one substantial meal that is provided daily. Cooking breakfast kept them busy and allowed them to NOT overeat and to prepare things they enjoyed. Compare prices with the lodges which serve 3 meals a day - the two we looked at were much more expensive, and the locations were not as good. This residence has been a Godsend.

My mother has been at Royal Park for nearly 18 years. What was originally intended to be a stop-gap, temporary solution to help facilitate her move from Ontario to Calgary has definitely turned into a β€œhome” for her, in every sense of the word. Royal Park has many well-organized, weekly programs that provide the residents with: physical stimulation (unfortunately my mother can not participate in these), mental stimulation (which she loves) and social activities/outings (another favorite). As noted by one of the other reviewers one my mother’s favorite daily activities is sitting around the bistro having coffee and chatting with her friends. Everyone is welcome and they have solved many of the world’s problems ?. The staff is outstanding. They are all caring people who go the extra step to make every resident feel comfortable and welcome. In my mother’s case she has physical disabilities that result in her having limited mobility. However, she regularly gets assistance from the staff that allows her to take part in many of the events that are organized for the residents. They definitely go above and beyond the call-of-duty in this regardβ€”and I believe this applies to all levels of staff; from the administration, to the front office, to the kitchen staff and the volunteers at the residence. I can not say enough superlatives about Royal Park and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced retirement residence for an elder who wants to maintain a sense of independence, but who will also receive any care required to make their life comfortable.

I came to Ontario after I lost my husband. I've always been a caregiver. My doctor said that I should move closer to my daughter who lives in Calgary. My daughter talked me out of buying a condo. She said I needed people and activities. So we toured 8 places and I chose Royal Park. I like that there are a lot of windows in my suite and I can see the mountains and the park. I also like that dinner is included and that lunch is optional. I have a kitchen and I like to cook. My daughter was right, I love the people here.

My mother has been a resident here for several years. She is well cared for, eats delicious meals, has been well protected during the pandemic and receives amazing onsite home care. The staff is excellent. My mother feels safe here and is very happy. I am impressed by her experience here.

Royal Park is a comfortable pleasant place to live. I like that I have the privacy of my own suite and I have security along with it. I am fortunate to have my own garden box because I enjoy tending to flowers.
