About Cedars Villa Extendicare

It was a big day at Extendicare Cedars Villa & Hillcrest. The staff were excited at both facilities and really enjoyed the chocolate fruit kabobs. We also received many pledges from the staff for Change Day.

What is Change Day? It is one act, small or big, can lead to improvement in our health or the healthcare system. Anyone was invited to make a pledge, start a ripple, and become a Change Day Hero.

We tied this in to our wellness committee for it goes hand in hand with some of the things we are trying to accomplish.

This was the first year of Change Day in Alberta. It started in British Columbia. Alberta Health Services liked it so much that they implemented in Alberta this year with a goal of 6000 pledges. It looks like we reached 5950 pledges so we are pretty close.

If you are interested in Change Day please visit the http://www.changedayab.ca

This was a fun and easy day to take part in and we believe it is going to catch on pretty fast.

Very kind staff to take care of my dad when he needed the most help. Pretty old building but very diligent on fixing things up as needed. Beautiful gardens to visit, wheelchair accessible.

I cannot say enough good things about Cedars Villa. We moved my Mom in there roughly 3 weeks ago and we have been so comforted with how she has responded due to the amazing staff and caregivers. We have already had a Family Care Conference and it was very nice to meet the Doctor and other staff on the team. My brother and I have had a huge weight lifted off our shoulders knowing that my Mom is such good hands. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Honestly not surprised to hear that a woman was found deceased outsude after not being discovered for hours. The staff here are defiant, don't wear their name tags, and are no where to be found after hours, they will use your loved ones products and forget having anything of value because it will be repeatedly stolen, even if it's hand embroidered with their name on it. This is a for profit business and it's very poorly managed, there is also no management there after hours or on weekends, it's a total free for all with the staff. Residents who are wheelchair bound are often lined up beside the staff stations where they are ignored as the staff sit and visit for hours, ignoring the call button continuously ringing in the background. If your family member is non-verbal do not put them here, they will be like a forgotten toy on a shelf and unable to tell you. If you notice an increase of UTI's in your loved one, chances are it's because if they need assistance to use the washroom they are often kept waiting, having accidents, and aren't cleaned right away. I'm haunted by the guilt of how long my grandma was here before we moved her. I truly hope that things have changed in the last 5 years, but I don't have high hopes for a facility that is privately owned, Publicly Traded, and very poorly managed. Do your homework and visit a few times before even considering bringing your loved one here. And if you do, I suggest a hidden camera, you will not regret that.

We would Not Recommend This Facility .. especially with the current staff at least approximately 6 weeks ago when we were given word that Our family member.. a Resident at Cedars Villa.. was in hospital and not expected to survive a simple Hip Fracture.. which unfortunately is Now a Death Sentence? On behalf of my fiance's grandmother, whom recently passed away due to a questionable injury. We had several visits with her there, and witnessed staff being neglectful, disrespectful and rude towards their "patients". The very week we bought her new clothing.. puzzles And Non-Slip Slippers .. somehow she fell and fractured her hip even though she was wheelchair bound 95% .. we offer wonder how long she was left unattended to before & after her injury.. this could very well be Why she fell having to tend for herself after her requests for assistance were ignored. After hearing of a Similar patient being left outside to freeze to death.. this Facility needs to be investigated.! Her grandmother often talked about how she "wanted to run away, if she could and/or even die to escape this place". While visiting her indoors as her grandmother requested and was approved by the staff, we were talking amongst ourselves and suddenly another woman ( in the home) was yelling "you hit me" to one of the "caregivers " as she was being pushed away by the staff in her wheelchair. Again, I do not recommend this as a "caregiving" home, in fact it is more like a prison. That's how our grandmother described it.
