About Calgary Animal Rescue Society
Who We Are
Calgary Animal Rescue Society is made up of volunteers, some of us volunteer as foster parents, participate in adoption events, work at fundraisers, and are members of our Board of Directors. We all do our best to help animals in need find new fur-ever homes.
What We Do
Our primary goal is to find loving forever homes for cats and dogs in need, working with rescues throughout Alberta and across Canada. We have also formed partnerships with rescues in other countries to bring over dogs that may not otherwise have been able to find permanent homes.
In addition to our rescue efforts, we occasionally will visit schools to educate, inform and answer questions to promote the importance of compassion. foster, adopt, volunteer. Together we can make a difference, and we do!
Rescue is hard work. Often the days are long and the nights are even longer. We are very fortunate to have an amazing volunteer rescue team that work tirelessly and are available at a moments notice to help an animal in need. We are also a foster home based rescue, so our foster homes are critical and an important stepping stone in the rescue process. We can’t say enough good things about our fosters. They are there every time we need them. It’s all about team work!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I filled in an application to adopt a dog, I received an email shortly after stating they would set up a meet and greet in the coming days. Never heard anything! Emailed 3 times and did not receive any responses. Very disappointed in the lack of organization from this group. I understand it is a volunteer based organization but that is still no excuse.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I recently had the privilege of fostering and adopting Ace. The experience I had with CARS was incredible. Right from filling out the application, to bringing him home to foster, the surgery date for his neuter, and finally deciding that he was already home. I am grateful for each person who helped along the way, answered my frenzied text messages and supported our family through the adoption process.
And I think if Ace could speak with words like humans do, he would express his gratitude for helping him find a new life.

Phoned with genuine questions about an animal and looking for supportive animal care or support. Was met with disregard and abrasive rudeness. If this place gets public funding it needs to be seriously re-evaluating it’s unprofessional approach to community service work.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very upset to hear from my friend who adopted a lovely cat with CARS but in few days cat health became very bad. My friend took use of the Line of credit to pay for the big billss. In between, my friend tried to reach out to see if she can get some help but they did not care about the huge medical bill and the health of the cat. They said it was my friend problem that she did not get insurance right away.
When she took the cat home the cat was fine. Once the cat seems not ok, my friend brought to my friend's own vet. The Vet said no way they would not know if they did what they said they did(all the medical exams and stuff). The vet have been getting discount to my friend but they are still adding up.
My friend could have gave up the cat and return it to CARS but my friend kept the cat because my friend is a very responsible person and have been taking care the pet with medical bills with no insurance coverage.
I guess if you have good experience you are lucky. But when getting a pet from a organization that we though would help but ended up being not supportive and not responsive and not responsible. I am very disappointed.
I will rethink about donating to this organization. I was always donating to them anonymous.
