I stayed first in the temporary housing and then stayed in long term and then back to short term. This was quite a number of years ago. It was overall a good experience and the staff were very helpful.

When I was homeless I spent time at the YWCA 1st Stop Woodlawn shelter youth side, most of my stays where not terrible for a shelter until my last one in early spring/late winter of 2016. I was eager to get out of there too I was offered housing late January but because I was in a TTC accident TCHC had to renovate the unit to be wheelchair accessible and in compliance with bunch of laws including fire codes and the AODA. Shelters can be rough though and jealousy gets people in the worst ways. One dinner this girl thought she would attempt to strangle me with her bare hands and I could not breathe, praying and hoping staff would help but they just seemed to carry on serving dinner, I was struggling to get her off me and I was trying not to cause her harm. Because of my use of a wheelchair I had to make sure I didn't accidentally hit her in the sternum or throat whilst trying to get her to stop strangling me, thankfully another youth came and ripped her off me. Because I defended myself I was barred from all YWCA services for 90 days (maximum allowed) and she got placed at one of the 4 youth shelters that are wheelchair accessible and I had nowhere to go until a month later. My stuff was even stolen out of storage. My teddy bear as seen in the picture, my red and black blanket, my shopping cart I used to do my laundry, even my medical supplies went missing. I would not recommend this place to women with physical disabilities at all.
