Our Philosophy

about-2

Here at Wooftopia we believe in positive reinforcement. We want your dogs to listen and learn from us because they want to and because they trust us, not because they are afraid. We are in this business to help dogs be more confident, well mannered, and happy! All of our staff are trained and skilled in working with dogs with behavior issues while in a daycare environment. That doesn’t mean that every dog can attend daycamp, but we will work with owners to make that a possibility.

Our assessment includes a one on one chat with either our owner and head trainer, Dez, or another auntie, and a session with one of our working dogs. This is a complimentary assessment so you can learn more about our facility and what we do while we learn about your dog so we can make sure to take the best care of them possible. What is a working dog, you ask? We have some dogs that come to daycare and help with assessments and training sessions. Generally these pups read other dogs very well and make them feel comfortable. Some of them can even tell us what personality type your dog is!

You may see a dog in a muzzle on our Facebook page. We use a muzzle to help dogs that are nervous around other dogs feel more comfortable and take their mind off of potentially biting. Having to wear a muzzle does not mean that dog is a “bad dog”, they may just need help increasing their threshold for interactions with other dogs. We make sure to work towards taking the muzzle off whether that takes 2, 5, 10, or 100 visits. These dogs are trained with a muzzle prior to putting one on at daycamp and our aunties are making sure that everyone is having fun and being respectful.

Our way of training differs a little bit from other training/daycare facilities. We use the principles from a program called ‘Behavior Adjustment Training’ or ‘BAT’ to help dogs learn to calm themselves down and make good decisions on their own. We watch for signals that a dog is thinking and we reward for that signal (verbally, eg. ‘GOOD GIRL SCRUFFLES’), to boost their confidence so they can calm down and make a good decision. Some examples of these signals are licking their lips, yawning, sniffing the ground, looking at you and showing the whites of their eyes, and/or a wet dog shake. Our daycare also has a very low staff to dog ratio of 1:7-10, depending on the group. We are all certified in pet CPR and trained in canine body language and behavior. Our aunties are extremely involved with the dogs during the day whether it be making sure play is respectful or doing some basic manners training. This ensures a safe and happy environment for your pooch!

We love Wooftopia! The grooming options while my dog is in daycare are great. It's close to work for me so the early hours are super convenient to drop him off before I head in. The report cards are hilarious! And the people are always friendly, helpful and great at informing me of how my dog did on any particular day. Worth every penny!

Great first time for our 9 month old dog at daycare last week. Staff were friendly and, most importantly, demonstrated a clear awareness of what our dog was up to and his day was. They sent us a report card the next day. We've been at other places where all they say is that the day was fine. Wooftopia have us genuine feedback. And they have ample space for the dogs to run and play.

We take our dog for day care at least once a week. He loves it and gets super excited when we pull into the parking lot. Staff is great with the dogs and they have some dog items for sale in the front.

We moved to Winnipeg 2.5 years ago, and searched throughout the city for a reliable place to bring our 3 year old Border Collie/German Sheppard mix. We went to 3 other day cares in the city, and non compared to Wooftopia. The staff are so friendly, they knew how to manage our high energy dog, and they always had great feedback on her day to day behavior. We also took some on leash training classes and we saw big improvements in our dogs behavior. The staff that trained us and the dog were the same ones in the daycare which really helped to train our dogs obedience. I would highly recommend Wooftopia to anyone with a dog in Winnipeg! By far the best dog facility in the city, great job!

Our puppy comes home exhausted in the best way possible after every visit. She always has a great time with her friends and the staff- And we love the report card they send out letting us know how her day was and what friends she made! They also always seem to have fun activities and enriching games for the doggos to play and we feel confident leaving her in their care. ❀️ Theodora loves you guys and so do we!

Our pup has the best time and comes home so sleepy. We know that Wooftopia staff are taking care of our pup when she's there. We love the report card that summarizes who her friends were that day, how she played , and her energy level.

Staff are fantastic! Simba gets a great workout running freely at the facility. He learns to socialize properly with other dogs. Proper manners. Huge facility.

The best experience I've had with a doggy daycare. I love the assessment process to make sure all dogs are safe. I felt more than comfortable dropping off my dog and appreciate the "report card" when I pick her up. Only 4 stars just because they're closed in the evenings and weekends for daycare, and I'd love for her go more often.
