β β β β β Although the place is very Spartan itβs comfortable with a minimum of creature comforts no fridge or tv and very mediocre SHAW internet, the price was right and itβs conveniently located. There is a shared room and kitchen downstairs where you can watch the only tv and perhaps cook a simple meal.
In all a good value.

β β β β β I live in camps when I work up north. This place felt like I was working. The price was good. The bed was not at all comfortable. If the internet worked in my room I would have been much happier :D

β β β β β WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. i came here and everything was great just! then things just went wrong and viu didnβt care!! 3 of our lights burned out, our sink was always clogged, our fridge leaked and they didnβt do anything about it. my roommate moved out of my room and then they told me i either had to pay $1000 or they would move me out of my room. i moves my bed since i had no roommate anymore and a lady went through my desk and took pictures of my room when i was away and got an email saying i had to pay money if i didnβt put it back. then two more people came into my room while i was home from reading break and took all the clothes out of my closet and dumped them on my desk. they left me a note saying that they cleaned the room and if they came back again and it was dirty theyβd make me pay $150 even though my room wasnβt messy ever. they just beg for money and get mad over pointless things and donβt care about the well being on their students. i will never recommend staying at res to anyone ever and i really hope they change and clean up their act.

β β β β β I had a horrible experience living on VIU residence. The staff kept making mistakes in terms of charging too many fees on my account, not ordering the proper bed sheets I required, and not signing me up for things that I paid a lot of money for. Overall not impressed. The food service here is also not what you would expect from a university with a resident population. Only Monday through Friday with no weekend service. What do they expect, everyone just goes home for the weekend? I understand that it's student run with the culinary program, but there's no reason why they can't bring in a couple people over the weekend.
When I applied to live here, I selected that I wanted a quiet area and my program of study is a nursing program. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that nursing students really don't appreciate being in a party building. I go to the library when I can, but sometimes yes I like to study in the comfort of my room.
Overall I felt that VIU really doesn't provide well in accommodating students who want to live on residence. If we're going to be screwed over and short changed like this, then the university really should have thought before building dorms. I'm so glad I only have two and a half months left

β β β β β The rooms are ridiculously small, especially those you have to share with a roommate. The smallest rooms are set up as double rooms and the largest as singles which is unfair. The rules on residence are quite strict which is understandable for the safety of others but sometimes it makes it an undesirable place to live when someone is constantly breathing down your neck.

β β β β β Great place to be, but sometimes the age of the buildings shows. Very convenient place to live while doing your studies. It's the people you meet in residence that make it, not so much the actual buildings and facilities themselves. With that being said, I have no regrets living here.

β β β β β I had very sad experience with the residents employees , they were very racists upon complaining that I had experienced racist behaviour in my building no action was taken. The only good thing about VIU res is their affordability prices in summer.
