The Fort Museum is located at Fort Macleod, Alberta and is one of the main attractions in southern Alberta. The museum includes 8 buildings, over 9,000 artifacts, and an archival collection. The museum houses two of the oldest buildings in the area that are restored on their original sites: the Fred Kanouse trading cabin and Frederick Haultain’s law office.

The displays in the fort are very clean and nicely set up. It was fun to be able to climb to the upper level. We paid extra to see the musical ride. It was confusing on where we needed to be to watch this ride. Us and the other customers that paid to see this moved to a couple of areas trying to figure it out. It ended up that we missed the inspection portion because of the confusion. Other than the beginning confusion the musical ride was very interesting.

When I was young, we’d watch Sgt. Preston. I’ve always wanted to know more about the NWMP. The museum showed me a better understanding of the NWMP. The history of the fort and of the RCMP was fascinating and impressive. I’d always had a lot of respect of the RCMP and now even more. The museum was very informative. There was a nice little shop with a variety of items related to the frontier and RCMP/NWMP. The best part of the museum was the β€˜Musical Ride’ performed by volunteers who do a magnificent job of showing their horsemanship. The routines are great. The riders are very willing to answer any questions asked of them. I would recommend 1) checking their website for their schedule and 2) IF there is any kind of inclement weather in the area, call to verify the riders will be performing. I just wish I was able to film the performance. I think, should we be back in AB again, we will return visit them again.

We went there on Canada day. The museum wasn't busy, so we had a chance to walk around and enjoy musical ride. It was a good experience!

VERY detailed and full of history. The museum layout is a tad odd and haphazard, but it was still a good stop. They did not have the musical ride when we were there so that kind of took away from the museum a little bit, but I still enjoyed it. If you are short on time it is skippable but if you want to learn more about the history of western Canada's colonization then this is great stop. Kids will be bored to death but history buffs will think it's cool.

Lovely place for adults and kids ? Kids were amazed by the horse attack show ?? The history is alive there: true fort, true rooms, true atmosphere....feels like some 18th century captain with his wife are going to come in, sit on the porch, drink some tea....A must see gem of Alberta ???

Awesome. There were actors giving tours to school children when we went, so it was a bit crowded and noisy, however that did little to detract from the great museum. There was first nations displays (which was our prime focus!) However this museum was primarily focused on the North West Mounted Police and their first post in this area.

This place must be one of your bucket list when you go to Macleod. Everything feels realistic in here. Our whole family enjoyed the museum as well as the musical ride
