Tasty spicy noodle soup. You get an empty bowl to put your own toppings in, you're charged based on the weight (some premium toppings such as certain types of meat are extra). I had the standard soup at regular spiciness and it was nice and thick and had a good level of spice without being overbearing. The price is decent but there's no way to tell how much you're gonna pay. If you're bad at eyeballing food amounts (like I am) you might end up paying by your stomach rather than your budget.

I was looking for a malatang place in dt for a very long time. This place is very clean but small. The selections for toppings are not many but ingredients looked fairly fresh.

Everyone must come to Spicy Mafia at least once in their lives (I go at least once a week because I work close by). It is some of the best custom soup I've ever had. Let me explain how it works. How to order: - When you walk into Spicy Mafia, you will be greeted by really nice people. Say hello and then walk past the counter and go left. - On the left hand side of the store there is a shelf that reminds me of a grocery store, with multiple levels, showing you what is available for you to choose for your custom soup. - On the right side of this shelf, there will be plastic bowls and tongs. You pick a bowl and a pair of tongs and with the tongs you select all the items you want to have cooked in your soup (and you put everything right into the bowl). - After you've made your selection, you go to the counter with your bowl of stuff (for me, I usually pick noodles, crab, and pork) and then the lady takes your bowl and weighs it for you. You pay by weight. If you want a dense soup with lots of stuff, it will cost more. If you want a soup that is more broth-y, it will cost less. - After she weighs the bowl, she will ask you what broth you want. There is a ton to choose from but my favorite is their signature broth, the spicy soup with extreme heat. - She will then ask if you want cilantro, extra meat...etc. You can either say yes or no (I normally decline but do whatever you'd like). - They then cook everything together and it takes around 5-7 minutes. Now, when I tell you that this is some of the best soup in the city, I'm not exaggerating. It has just the right amount of spices and flavors and it is also a cool experience (not everyday I get to make my own soup). Side note: They also have a ton of drink options but I normally just get the soup. Highly recommend!

I haven’t even tried the food yet but the lady’s sweetness is enough to give me this place a 10/5 stars. If anyone ever bullies her so help them god because she is the absolute nicest lady ever. But on a side note I just tried the food and it’s good.

I like dinning here when it is not crowded. The noodle soup is really good and price is reasonable. Conveniently located beside U of T campus.

Tastes great! Quake eggs are delicious! So are the udon noodles. Can be a a bit pricey if you fill up your bowl, the first time you try it you'll likely add too many toppings ;) Seating is a bit weird as there is a long communal table and then some more tables in the middle (space is limited, especially lunch and dinner). you will likely be sitting next to someone else. Also this meal is better for eat-in than take-out. Great spin on noodle soup. You place your choice of noodles, vegetables, meat, tofu, fish, etc. into your bowl. They weigh your bowl (price depends on the weight), and then your select how spicy the broth will be and have a choice of adding additional meat. No credit cards accepted.

Basically mainland Asia version of Deer Garden - more selection but more expensive. Very casual, fast Asian foods. Bright with several seatings, good for students that want to drop by for a quick lunch. Fast service: only took about 10 mins from picking ingredients to getting your food! You get to pick your own ingredients where they make it into a hotpot stew for you. You just grab what you want into the bowl and bring it up to the counter, remember to put noodles into your bowl too! When you bring it up, they basically just add the soup and boil it for you. $8.99/lb choose your own soup (signature spicy soup). Very yummy, 4 levels of spicy - got regular and it was pretty weak. $4.50 whole lemon black /green tea - pretty good but wouldn't recommend paying for this (cost: lemon $0.5 + tea $0.25, that's a 600% markup). 4 stars for the food, relatively pricey for what you're getting so 3 stars. ***Debit/Cash Only***

100% worth a visit. Good selection of ingredients, very decent base soup, the lady is very kind and hardworking. Reasonable price. Will be visiting again for sure.
