My wife's family has been fighting with this group for years. Her grandfather established a trust and reluctantly went with a corporate trustee in an effort to avoid family squabbles. He picked the wrong corporate trustee. They're heading back to court in the new year and Solus has spent SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS in legal fees from the trust to avoid showing their accounting for where the money was spent and where it is now. Don't use this group, they're not good people.

If you are looking for a slow trust company with no personal skills or business sense, make sure to choose Solus. If you would like to experience what it’s like as a “client” of their company, just take a look at some of their responses to other reviews below. Absolutely no professionalism. They are arrogant, condescending, rude and offer no empathy for the people they are are supposed to be managing money for. At times they are abusive with their “power”. The only reason, this company is still in business is because their clients don’t have a choice. I don’t think it’s coincidental that their company is called Solus, spell it out... soul-less.

This trust company has very little regard for the beneficiaries of the estates they manage. In fact it is most likely that most beneficiaries from the estates they manage die prematurely due to the stress of dealing with this company. I hadn't even bothered dealing with them at all or taking money out because of the stress of being legally disinherited and having my condo put into a trust. This year I had to because I needed to make home improvements such as a new floor to help my sinusitis to replace original 30 year old carpets making me sick... to replacing a rotting retaining wall in the yard .. to replacing a fridge which had no shelves!!!! 8 months later I am still out all this money that they are supposed to reimburse me for!!! I even did all the work myself saving the trust thousands of dollars they would have had to spend with sub contractors. The trust wants to own my house but they run it worse than a slumlord would... I have to use pliers to start my dishwasher!!!! Whats worse is I have a chronic disease HIV for which I was managing well until this conflict arrived between the trust and the financial repression they have imposed on me. I have now become resistant to both main options St. Paul's offers to HIV patients and I believe it is due solely to the financial stress caused be those who work at Solace. It happened over the time period where they refused to reimburse these major capital expenditures. Over the last year my life has been undeniably shortened due to the fact I am now burning through medical options for my HIV faster than Fort Mac went up in flames. If your kid has HIV I would urge you to NEVER put your estate with Solace Trust as your beneficiary will ultimately develop AIDS on a much faster timeline than another more benign trust. Ultimately the goal is to allow the beneficiary to live the best possible life because the trust is supposed to manage it better.... that is the theory right? Well.... I am undeniably developing AIDS on a much faster timeline than I would have if I had not been legally disinherited and my condo misappropriated with my aunt business assets. I really hope this helps some people make decisions about this company because no one informed me about my asset planning and as a result I lost everything to a trust upon my aunts death because she got mad at me 6 weeks before she pulled the plug on her own bitter life.

I was referred to Solus Trust by a number of trusted advisors in the legal, accounting and financial planning fields. After meeting the President and a Senior Trust Officer and learning about their policies and competitive fee structure, I realized that it offered services which I wanted to use. Specifically, the fact that Solus is independent, and not part of a major banking conglomerate, meant that it uses investment managers chosen by the settlor/deceased rather than liquidating assets and putting the proceeds into the bank’s own mutual funds. I had Solus appointed as co-executor for a testamentary family trust. The company appointed a Senior Trust Officer who was responsible for all matters including accounting and reporting, and more importantly, all dealings with the beneficiary. Having watched how this was done, I was able to resign as a trustee with a happy, clear conscience. I referred a friend to Solus and when he passed it was executor for his estate. The family has expressed great satisfaction at Solus’s performance. I have named Solus as trustee for my own planned testamentary trust and as backup power of attorney and executor in my will.
