About Sawmill Prime Rib & Steak House

Mr. Tom Goodchild established the Sawmill Restaurant Group in November of 1976, and over the years, the Sawmill has grown with the city. You will find Mr. Goodchild actively involved in our day to day operations.

We are an Edmonton based company operating fully licensed food and beverage operations in Edmonton.

The main ingredients to the Goodchild success formula are the dedication to and insistence on delivery of top quality products with exemplary service. This philosophy has become the cornerstone of the Sawmill Group’s tradition.  Famous for our 28-day aged Certified Angus Beef, the varied selections on our menu are sure to please everyone.

Competitions

The opportunity to have our Culinary Team explore their potential beyond our standard menu is important as they grow within our organization. We are pleased to showcase their culinary talent and have won many competitions over the years.

Every year we participate in Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s “FEASTival of Fine Chefs”. As a fundraiser for their Chef’s Apprenticeship Program, participating dining establishments are given a “mystery food hamper” 24 hours in advance. With only these items (different for each participant) the objective is to create a four-course gourmet meal for approximately 60 guests. The Sawmill is always among the best in taste and presentation.

Affiliations & Memberships

The Sawmill Restaurant Group maintains membership in a number of industry related organizations, including Edmonton Tourism, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Alberta Restaurant & Food Association, Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, Canadian Food & Restaurant Association and Alberta Tourism Education Council. We strongly support culinary and apprenticeship programs in the province and are members of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Program Advisor Committee. We encourage management from our stores to work with the business associations in their respective neighbourhoods.

I stayed in the hotel, restaurant was attached so went for supper. Ordered Calamari as appetizers, It was bland and undercooked. I ordered the beef dip as my meal with ceasar salad. Apparently gravy is now considered au jus, it was terrible. The ceasar salad was awful, don't know what dressing they used but it wasn't ceasar dressing, tasted like just olive oil or something, and the portion was miniscule, like seriously small. I would be embarrassed to serve that. 65 dollars later I left still hungry. Also had two beers. Went for the complimentary breakfast next morning. Well, if you, heaven forbid, wanted toast AND hashbrows it was an extra charge. Pathetic. My four slices of bacon came out all stuck together, could hold it up in one piece. And really , a warm juice box, couldn't seve the oj in a glass with ice? Never be back. Zero stars would be a better rating.

Took our daughter out for her birthday supper and the staff were amazing and friendly, food was delicious and very nice atmosphere.

This place took 2 hours to make my food, and serve it to me. I was being polite, there were 5 visible servers and i had to remind them to get me my food. They only served drinks to me. The place wasnt even busy it was me, and 5 other people within the entirety of the resteraunt. I hate to say it but they forgot about me

Took a few minutes to be seated but not the end of the world our server and host where very friendly with prompt service , water always topped up and checked to see if everything was satisfactory, our meal was delicious my son inhaled his Kobe burger and my steak was cooked perfectly, would definitely return!! Had breakfast in the lounge this morning 1st time since I've been here in 2 weeks my drink order was taken immediately followed by my delicious meal which was done perfectly, the young lady who was working, sorry I didn't catch her name did an excellent job and a big smile to go with it !! $10.99 for steak and eggs for hotel guests before 11AM can't beat that !! Consistantly good meals been here for over 2 weeks and 1 of my favorite places to eat, breakfast, lunch and dinner, best lounge around hands down

I have always been a fan of sawmill and their steak. But 2 weeks ago I was absolutely disappointment with my food. The steak was way over cooked than how I ordered it. It was covered in au jus which in all the times I have eaten they have never cooked steak in that. Au jus? More like a jelly. Which ruined the steak. Was more like gravy to me. And I’m not a fan of gravy in the first place. And on my steak? No thanks. There was more fat and gristle on this steak than there EVER should have been. Of all the steaks I’ve ordered out any at restaurant, there’s has never been fat/gristle on the steak like this one. At first it seems like the steak is huge but in reality it’s not. And I’m not expecting it to be a big steak. I’m fine with a smaller steak. Seasoned and cooked to how It should be. It’s pretty sad when the sides are better than the main entree. I will not be back. I’ll spend my money elsewhere. It’s too bad with how much money I spent to receive such a poor meal.

Over an hour for cold food. Almost borrowed the old guys dentures that was sitting in the next booth. Steak was so tough I could barely chew it. Veggies had some kind of strange cream sauce on it. Not impressed for a national chain restaurant.

The two waitresses that were on were absolutely fabulous and allowed us to stay extra long to chat because we had not seen each other in months. I love the way they have combined the two eating areas into one with a combined menu.

We normally love coming here the food is great. This morning we came in for breakfast and we understood it was busy and they may need some time to serve us. We sat there for 15 minutes with no greeting or beverage order with 2 hungry children. Multiple servers walked past us. Another couple walked in and was served right away. The other server tended to the people standing at the front. Not impressed.
