About Pita Pit

Lebanese-style pita sandwichesWhen Pita Pit began back in 1995, Braveheart was Best Picture, Seinfeld was all the rage, the Worldwide Web was just taking off and the DVD was new—and a major innovation.

So was the idea that drove Nelson Lang and John Sotiriadis to open their first Pita Pit in Kingston, Ontario.

Today’s trend toward healthier eating was still a long way off, but Nelson and John were ahead of the curve. They were convinced the time was right to offer a fresh, healthy alternative to traditional high-fat, high-carb, high-calorie fast foods. Their Lebanese-style pita sandwiches packed with fresh veggies, grilled meats and zesty sauces were an instant hit with the college and university crowd, especially since the store stayed open late—well into the wee hours of the morning, making it perfect for students taking a break from studying or coming home after a night of partying.

Within two years, franchise stores had begun opening right across Canada. Two years later, they were opening in the USA where the concept took off immediately with consumers of all ages.

Today, there are more than 650 Pita Pit stores in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Clearly, Pita Pit’s “fresh thinking, healthy eating” motto is an idea whose time has come.

This place is super unsanitary. The bathrooms are disgusting. The garbage was full, with grime all over the lid and base of it. Sink, toilet mirror also not well-kept. Seeing that makes you question the state of the kitchen and prep area. I choked down the pita because I paid 16$ bucks for it. The staff are also not very friendly. Won't be coming back.

Said it opened at 11. People didn’t show up until after 11, then when I was finally let it, they said it would be another 15 minutes while everything heats up. IMO if it says open at 11, you should be able to order at 11, not 11:20. She was also rude about it.

Went to this Pita Pit today for lunch. It was a complete joke. There was 2 workers and 5 people in the store. One lady making the food and one guy working the till and not helping make the food while everyone proceeded to wait. It took 30 minutes to get my pita and they didn't seem to care whatsoever. Also, they barely cook the meat or pay attention to it(very obvious) The place does not seem clean and I am actually shocked AHS hasn't investigated this place. I would never go back to this pita pit.

Worst pita I've had at this location. Usually when I go there I'm very satisfied with the taste and size of my pita but today was a big let down...especially when you give tip before being served just to get a very small, very dry almost no ingredients and an unfriendly clerk to serve you. I had ordered a regular size and mine looked like a kid size...certainly wasn't a happy customer today.

Prices are crazy. Spent 37$ on two small pita wraps and two cans on pop. If I’m spending 13$ on wrap I’d expect a better size then a small one for a kid. I could get a footlong sub from subway for 11$. Taste was amazing very disappointed in the pricing. Feels like I got ripped off.

Having loved Pita pit previously, I thought I would try this location again. I tried it first over a year ago and found the portions very small and the staff not friendly. Today I visited with a colleague and the same experience. Found the staff not friendly. The girl working the till- was wearing gloves and then would throw the meat in the grill. I couldn’t tell if she touched it, but usually if you are touching the cash register( which is dirty) then opening a fridge which other people prepping food, could be touching it, is cross- contamination. They also weren’t very friendly when asking for napkins/fork when I pita ripped and spilt all over. It was like I was the hassle. I also noticed the grill and fridge and equipment behind the counter- not that tidy. I won’t be returning.

I was there around 7.50 pm. The staff working there was cleaning the grill. He told me to just wait for 3-5 minutes and he will clean the grill. Literally I have worked before in food industry and I know it’s horrible if someone come at closing time. But he clean the grill and make my pita with big smile on his face. Thank you so much for your excellent service.
