Peasant Cookery – Fresh Food from the Land - Peasantcookery.ca

Melissa was in school pursuing marine biology when the drudgery of university studies caught up with her. Melissa met a passionate chef at a local job fair who inspired her to explore culinary school. After working for the Fairmont hotels in Winnipeg, Lake Louise, New Brunswick, and Montreal, Melissa came home to roost with an 8-year tenure at Resto Gare in St Boniface, which prepared her for her current home as Executive Chef at Peasant Cookery.

My partner and I came here for my post-exam celebrations and I am glad we came here. The gnocchi was so complex, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth fluffy. The baba was good too but I wish there was more maple run sauce. We both ended up feeling really bloaty when we got home, and this makes me wonder if the food was too rich? Great ambiance and our server was friendly. Their tables were socially distanced which made for a safe and private dinner.

Great attentive service. We really enjoyed Wednesday dollar oyster night. You may order up to 25 at a time. The calamari was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The pickled bean tzatziki was a great sauce to go with it. The chicken livers in brandy and peppercorn cream sauce was tasty and I don't like liver. Everything was well done. Things can be a little pricey but the quality is there.

We had the salmon and shepherds pie. Both meals were fantastic! We enjoyed the ambiance and the view of the old brick buildings through the huge windows. The drinks wer great as well. Staff was great. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

My favourite restaurant in Winnipeg. it’s a chic place with fun decorations. The wait staff works tirelessly to provide you with a pleasant polite experience. The food is PHENOMENAL and doesn’t take long at all to receive once ordered. The homemade bread is to die for. A great selection of appys. Make sure you call ahead for a reservation so you’re not disappointed!

●We went there for a birthday dinner. Place is downtown ( parking can be challenging on a Friday night) ●Ambiance is great, right in the heart of downtown but the food (We Elotte Penne & Moroccan spiced king salmon) was not good. We both added salt and pepper but still couldn't eat it. ●Appetizer: margarine was frozen, bread too hard and that stick was very salty ●Drinks: Sangria tasted like everything but a sangria. ●The service was great. Dining area closes at 11 but the lounge at midnight.

The customer service and food was perfect! I went there with a friend and we were hesitant to try the menu at first. The bartender was very nice and gave us some suggestions. We were still hesitant to try it, the bartender suggested different restaurants close by we could go try (I never expect that, lol, I though we would be kicked out at that time). We decided to stay and we ordered two appetizers (Calamari and Ribs) and two mains (Burger and Steak). It panned out great. For the mains, I would suggest you ask for sauces to be put on the side (if you are a very PICKY EATER like I am). I had to get mine remade because I didn’t like the sauce/gravy (they were still super nice about it). Thank you again for the great service and food!!!

Great dinner spot with cozy atmosphere and comfy booths. We went for Wenesday Buck a shuck oyster and have two dozen oysters between two of us. Great selection of local and imported beer and wine. Fries are done very well and gravy sauce on the steak had deep flavors. I don't think we got the right cut of steak though, as it was quite chewy and we asked for medium rare but it was more on the rare side. Service was great and professional. Parking is easy with free 1 hour parking option for the city of Winnipeg.
