โ โ โ โ โ This is by no means a 5 star restaurant, however as a whole, this place is great. Lots of history here. Affordable full breakfast made to order. And I've never had a bad experience here. This place has been in the DTES for decades. Dozens of movies filmed here over the years. One thing to add, the food is always consistent, food is always cooked the way you want it! Please support the smaller guys ?

โ โ โ โ โ I have been going to the Ovaltine on occasion for at least 40 years. It is a good, reliable spoon, the food is regular diner fare but the place is virtually unchanged since it opened in 1942. It has been used in many TV/film/video productions because it oozes atmosphere.So if you like classic diners this is the last one to be found in downtown Vancouver.
If you are not that familiar with the city be aware that the Ovaltine is on the hard part of E. Hastings (just east of Main). There are a lot of street people around but they are more benign than people might think. In all the many decades I have gone there I have never had a problem...

โ โ โ โ โ Got the House Burger. It's only $10 tax included, great tasting burger for a great deal ? Loved the crunch of the onion rings.
Saw Ovaltine Cafe on the list of oldest Vancouver restaurants and just had to come try it out. Loved the decor and feel inside, feels like I stepped back in time. Location is easy to get to, some interesting characters outside but felt totally safe.

โ โ โ โ โ Itโs a cool old dive with lots of history, clean restaurant and very safe environment inside for the area. The food is okay itโs definitely meant to be an affordable option for DTES residents. I would recommend it for the history aspect!

โ โ โ โ โ Fantastic service. Friendly and on top of refills. Clean. Eggs Benedict was great but the potatoes were meh. Iโm definitely gonna come here a lot!! Great spot!!! :)

โ โ โ โ โ Following many unappitizing, (and a few downright revolting) experiences trying the local dining establishments, this is without a doubt the best place in the nearby area to find good quality diner food! Personal favorites are the clubhouse sandwich and blueberry pancakes, but I have also have been recommended by friends the meatloaf and their omelets / bennies :D A little bit on the expensive side for the menu, but honestly, I am much happier paying a few extra dollars to not have to worry about finding a cockroach in my breakfast :D
