La Poutine - La-poutine.com

La Poutine is a locally owned specialty poutine shop and Food Truck in Edmonton, Alberta. We use locally grown potatoes and in-house made sauces and toppings to elevate the traditional 1950's poutine that Canada is known for. We're proud to offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu options.

Poutine. It couldn’t be any more Canadian.

After poutine enthusiasts Lindsey and Francis sampled poutine from East to West, they decided to create a restaurant concept to reflect their own unique take on the Canadian dish. They wanted to create a specialty shop where a classic poutine could be a blank canvas for amazing, elevated (and sometimes wacky) ingredients.

In May of 2011 La Poutine opened it’s doors to the historic neighbourhood of Garneau and since then has been repeatedly voted Best Poutine in YEG and 5th Best across Canada. C’est Bon!

What is Poutine, you ask? Poutine is a dish created in Quebec in the 1950's consisting of fries, cheese curds and piping hot gravy. The word "poutine" is rumoured to mean "hot mess" in old french slang.

At La Poutine, we start by taking the 3 main poutine elements seriously:

Fries: Our fries are hand-cut from locally grown russet potatoes and twice fried in canola oil.

Cheese Curds: Our curds are brought in from La Belle Province, Quebec for that authentic squeak.

Gravy: We offer 3 types of gravy: Traditional, Beef-Style + Gluten-free gravy.

Our petit restaurant has 10 seats inside and 12 outside (Oui! Even in the Winter!)  We look forward to welcoming you!

Every time I'm in Edmonton, La Poutine gets a visit. Still consistently the best available in the city with great individual elements and a great mix. Curds just melting but not mush. Chips covered in enough gravy but not too soggy. Gravy thick but not gloopy. This time it was "The Supreme" featuring sour cream, bacon and spring onions on top of the traditional poutine - excellent. As always, service is fast and friendly and they just leave you to it. Good work! Love you, LP. X

Had the Quebecois today with the traditional gravy - the meat, gravy and cheese were good but the fries were terrible. Like others are describing in their reviews - they were greasy, soggy, with a lot of potato skin that tastes like cardboard, some were not that hot. For a second I thought I ate a piece of their napkin but that wasn't the case. The manager on duty said that's how they always make their fries and been doing so for 10 years. But my fries did not look as good as the pictures on their listing. He said they don't do refunds but was nice enough to give me store credit for next time. So I guess I'll have to be back, or give it to someone in need. I'm giving 2 stars for the friendly service and the meat/cheese/gravy. No stars for the fries/parking/hand washing/sanitizing station/washroom/portion size and price ratio.

Came here for the first time today with some friends and we loved it! We got the traditional and the edgy veggie. The fries were really good and tasted fresh, cheese curds were also good, a little bit big for my liking but I just cut them to make it smaller. I wish the gravy was just a bit thicker but it tasted good!! I would love if they added a pulled pork poutine to the menu! Will definitely be coming back!!

Their menu is great with a lot of variety but they over fried my fries in the poutine once and it had a brunt taste hence.

Excellent vegan poutine. They are able to make around half their menu vegan which for Edmonton I've realized is quite special. Would recommend to any tourists who are in the area to try authentic Canadian food.

I ordered the regular big mack poutine and my daughter got the gluten free taco poutine. We ordered through uber eats. I love that they have so many different choices and tasty creations. I enjoyed it , maybe next time I will get double meat as didn't seem like enough, everything had great flavour. I would only complain that the fries were soggy , but maybe that is because we ordered through uber eats instead of picking it up in store. I will absolutely order from here again.

The service was great at this cute little hole in the wall, but the Fesh Curds were not squeeky or fresh. I ordered the Feature Grill Cheese Poutine that was a half a grilled cheese sandwich with way too much gravey and chipotle, which I'm sure their regular patrons love.

Parking is a pain. Be prepared to circle around for a spot. Small space to snack in but cozy. Service was nice and easy. Wish you could get smaller sizes of non-traditional to try them. Price was alright.
