Even with this crazy pandemic, I’ve been able to continue to train Shotokan online. At first, I admit I wondered if training virtually would be effective but it’s actually been quite great! Even though I miss the in-person applications, I feel like my technique, footwork, and kata practice are all improving. Definitely worth a shot in-person and/or online!

Kyle is a great sensai, using many different approaches he finds a way to teach each technique and has helped me overcome any obstacles I have come to. The club is warm and welcoming and I would encourage anyone who is interested to join.

I had always been interested in fitness, but prior to Kumakai, had never found a physical activity that inspired me to set and achieve goals over the long term. Kyle Sensei emphasizes the practical aspect of karate to make it applicable in real life situations and for self defence. Also he encourages his students to cross train in other styles and other martial arts, so we often incorporate techniques from judo and jujitsu in class. It is always interesting and stimulating. There are students of all ages and abilities in the club, and there is a real feeling of community and friendship. Whether you've done martial arts in the past, or you just want to try something new, I would unreservedly recommend Kumakai Karate.
