Health Upwardly Mobile Inc., (HUM) is an Integrated Health and Wellness company based in Calgary, Alberta. Our team includes a variety of healthcare providers including nurses, physicians, psychologists and social workers. HUM offers personal and corporate services, as well as training and workshops on topics related to Addiction, Mental Health, and Chronic Pain.
HUM’s unique strength is our ability to draw on individual and collaborative expertise to provide tailored individual care within an Integrated Continuing Care Framework. For all new referrals, this involves a comprehensive assessment to identify the individual’s physical and/or mental health issues. We also recognize the importance of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual dimensions for individuals and their families. Our work reflects collaborative strategies, preventive resources and leading edge research in the areas of Addiction, Mental Health and Chronic Pain.
Treatment, recovery and rehabilitation recommendations will focus on returning the individual to a state of “wellness” as soon as possible. Recommendations will be designed to ensure the earliest return to work and/or healthy living within the capabilities of each individual.
HUM means ‘we’ or ‘us’ in Hindi. We have chosen this acronym to also convey the meaning that we are stronger and more effective together… “Together we can”!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I began my journey of recovery at HUM having enrolled in their intensive outpatient program. It has been a truly life changing experience. I have struggled with addiction for many years. For the first time in my life I learned what I had. Through therapy I was able (and I continue) to understand and deal with my past. I have found hope again. I am learning about who I truly am as a person and I am growing. Finding HUM was not only life changing but it saved my life. I am eternally grateful to the entire HUM team and its patients for the experience and the continued support and guidance.

My experience through the assessment appointments was an interesting one, and resonated truth with me. HUM's compassionate, and empathetic approach towards therapy gave me the safety I needed for personal growth. HUM provided the support, programs, and encouragement to help me push through my cognitive barriers. I completed the Intensive Out Patient program which gifted me a deeper foundation of understanding, practice/tools, friendships, and connection that has changed my life. The HUM professionals, community, and staff are full of beautiful, caring Human Beings. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In 2016/2017 I facilitated a number of Art Therapy group sessions for the IOP program at HUM. I found the office to be warm and welcoming, and the program offers a healthy balance of mind, body and spiritual support. It was rewarding for me to observe the progression of the groups over the months of the program. I was often impressed with the notable positive changes evident in many clients. I also found the groups to be highly respectful of each other, supportive, and open to finding happier, healthier lifestyles. If you are seeking support in making major life changes, in my experience HUM is a solid, integrated and professional place to begin writing your next chapter in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I came to HUM almost 2 years ago feeling at my wits end as I had hit an emotional bottom! I had been sober for over 24 years and worked the steps of my 12 Step program, and yet I still felt disconnected and absolutely confused about where my life was going. From the outset, the Team at HUM offered me a completely different way of thinking about my disease of addiction. This new perspective has allowed me to change my thinking and therefore my actions. This has meant I’ve made some amazing and positive changes in my life that I would have never done using the tools I had at my disposable prior to being involved with HUM.
I completed their Intensive Outreach Program and that was the incentive that I needed to make the changes in my life. I continue to attend weekly group therapy sessions and individual counselling sessions. They continue to support my journey of recovery.
I can’t say enough good things about HUM and the team of caring, professional staff. I highly recommend this treatment facility to anyone struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My first experience with HUM was through the Intensive Outpatient Program they offer. This treatment program was miles ahead of any other treatment I had received or experienced up to that point. I learned more about my addiction than I could have ever imagined. It had such a profound effect on not only my life but my family/friends lives as well. I have come so far since attending IOP it is almost hard to believe. The staff is extremely helpful and supportive. I now attend weekly group therapy at HUM, and weekly one on one meetings with counsellors there. I have nothing but good things to say about this facility and each and every staff member I have met along the way. It has changed my life for the better and I am eternally grateful for this amazing resource. Each counsellor has been extremely helpful in many ways and their programs offer unique and beneficial approaches to recovery. I would strongly recommend HUM to anyone thinking about beginning or furthering their Recovery. They helped me to feel safe and supported throughout my journey, and I do not think I would be where I am today without the help of HUM and all of their staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was a patient of Dr. Hajela's 2 years before HUM was created. I was under his, and his teams care from HUM's inception in 2009 until 2014 (7 years). I attended 2 other treatment programs in BC and Calgary, as well as regular 12 step meetings. The quality of the group and individual therapy I received at HUM was by far the most professional I've experienced in my journey. My time at HUM had the most profound impact on my recovery and still does to this day. I'm beyond grateful to be part of this amazing team as a counsellor now, and to be able to have an impact on and witness the journeys of my fellow addicts.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I first accessed HUM years ago, as my first attempt at seeking recovery from addiction. Their team provided amazing support no matter where I was at on my journey. I began with harm reduction and attended their IOP. When I found I needed more intensive care, they guided me through the process of getting into a treatment centre. I really appreciated that they were extremely knowledgeable and approached addiction treatment from every conceivable angle (they didn't have a narrow definition of recovery, such as exclusively 12-step).
It took me a long time to finally find my way, but I'm now coming up to 2 years clean after a lifetime of addiction. I'm confident I wouldn't be where I'm at today if it weren't for the education & support that HUM provided in those early days. Dr. Hajelah gave me advice that was hard to swallow, but looking back it was right on the money whether I wanted to accept it or not, haha! Thank you to the whole team at HUM for what you do, you've made a huge impact on my life.

When I look back at the emotional dysfunction present in my life compared to where I am today I am filled with such gratitude. It has not always been easy and the therapy I have received at HUM has empowered me to do the work that was needed to progress in my recovery and develop the emotional life skills that have allowed me to live a healthy and honest life. If you are struggling with addiction, compulsive behaviour, and harmful thinking then I recommend HUM wholeheartedly!!!
