He told me that I needed a blood test to test for celiac and that I would have to consume some gluten before the test because we don't want a false negative. He also told me that the lab would be able to tell me how much and for how long I had to consume gluten. Cool. Except when I spoke to the lab, they're not allowed to make those recommendations (which makes sense). I then followed up with "him" (aka the office admin via email) and have been waiting for OVER A MONTH for the staff to respond with an answer which (in my opinion) should be easy for a gastroenterologist to answer). I follow up every week and I get "I will forward the email again and let you know when he responds"... do they not TALK? Could this not be a simple, 5 minute conversation where he/she asks "hey, this person wants to know how much gluten to consume and for how long before her blood test"? and then, an expert in the field and specialist doctor should be able to say "yes, eat at least two slices of white bread a day for 4 weeks before the test" (for example). But NO, I got nothing back and have been waiting for 6 weeks. Personally, if I don't get any response via email, then I try a different tactic to ensure patient care. I don't think the staff know that this is something that affects the way I live my life. Absolutely shameful.
