★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is my home. The Gaston Hotel is a 6 floor (with 24 rooms per floor) SRO. SINGLE ROOM OCCUPANCY. There is nothing for the public to do here. It is run by Atira. People rent rooms monthly here through BC housing and Atira.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ During 2018 - 19, Gastown couldn't find a manager who would stay and it went to help in a handbasket. Now they can't even find warm bodies to hire as staff. The condition of the common areas is scary. Toilets plugged for weeks at a time, rooms without locks are targets for thievery, barred visitors walk right in because the new staff aren't up to date, the only response you get when you ask for anything is "Its not my responsibility. " Don't let yourself get trapped here!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not nearly as bad as the Colonial next door. Recently renovated, so now feels very institutional. Tenants are pretty much treated like inmates by management, who believe that they have the authority to deny entrance to guests without govt iassued ID. BC Supreme Court has clearly stated they do not. Yet the illegal rules persist.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Well first off, it was a mid a blackout from flooding throughout gastown region. And second the Gastown Hotel is what's referred to as an SRO (single room occupancy) and without wanting to be degrading to anybody it's a hotel for people who live on disability, welfare. And I'll just leave it at that. It's not ideal for tourists.
