This is a really great fabric store with a lot of options for different kinds of fabric. They are very knowledgeable and helpful with fabric/sewing questions. They are limiting the number of people in their store right now. I haven't had to wait more than just a couple of minutes, and it also means they are available to cut/answer questions promptly!

Literally one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a store. Upon arriving at Gala fabrics I started to browse when I was approached by an angry staff member for not waiting at the front door. I was unaware of the policy that I had to wait at the front door to be let in, but returned to the front anyway. I want to be clear that the issue isn't that I wasn't allowed to simply walk around but rather the staff members approach when instructing me that I was breaking their covid rules which were not at all my intention! She simply could have said it in a nicer manner than "who instructed you to enter. go back to the front door I will let you know when you can come in". Very unwelcoming introduction. Once I was instructed to enter, I started browsing alongside other customers. The same staff member that practically ripped me a new one for entering the store blatantly went up to another customer browsing and said "the store closes in 30 minutes and there's still a big line" aka hurry up and get your stuff.. her response was "Um I can leave if you want to let another customer in". The staff member then looked at her and said "just be mindful of the time"... as if its her fault that they close at 4pm and they have a line. I was absolutely shocked a staff member would say that to someone let alone a customer! Extremely rude is an understatement. Avoid this place there are much better options where your business will be appreciated.

The staff are amazingly helpful and very experienced. I asked about a style of pattern I was looking for, and they suggested 3, then walked me through suggested options for mock ups and then finished garments.

Always a pleasure shopping here. The selection is amazing and the staff are all very knowledgeable. I came in trying to match clothing to make a pair of pants a matching vest, and despite how difficult that can be to do they still had multiple options. Highly recommend.

I sensed today was a stressful day for the employees as there were many moving parts throughout the store. They got to me in a timely manner and maintained a very friendly attitude while helping me. This was my first experience buying fabric for a garment and they expressed interest in my project which helped boost my confidence. I really appreciate them and their attitude!

Congratulations to Gala Fabrics on the new location! I've loved shopping with Gala for 20 years: the fabrics are second-to-none, with the best selection of silk and fine linen on Vancouver Island. I was delighted to find that they're carrying a beautiful line of high-grade cotton from Japan now too, in traditional colours and patterns. Making hantens for my family, I used the left-overs to create a patchwork backpack. Though the cotton is lightweight, it carries a ton of groceries in that pack, and shows no signs of stress where the shoulder-strap meets the main fabric. The new location offers a "free parking for customers" area, and is very accessible in downtown Victoria. As a cyclist, I love pulling up to the store safely, and locking my bike up in good trust. What else?! The most important thing, next to the quality of the fabrics...is service, and it is phenomenal. Knowledgeable staff; we can talk creative designs, adaptations of the pattern, different uses for fabric and more. Family-owned and operated, you can tell that they care, and the rapport with other staff members is palpable. Everyone enjoys it there. Keep up the great work Gala, and see you soon, for the next project. P.S. Thanks for posting my musical event posters in your store (locals supporting locals) All my stage outfits are made after visiting your store and getting inspired with a new purchase of scrumptious fabric. See you soon! The garments shared here are all made with Gala fabrics, with pattern numbers noted in the description.
